For a QM that message format doesn't look half bad. Are you running the latest version of RSRD and it's patch? It's been awhile since I've been down that way but I've found a Yamato anchored there before, running RFB 1.52 and RSRD. Also how close are you getting to the are in question? Might have to use the old Mk 1 eyeball to verify.

In September 1943, the japanese fleet make a trip to Brown Island with Yamato, Nagato, Shokaku, Zuikaku, CruDiv4, CruDiv5, CruDiv8 and DD.

Only Musashi, Kongo and Fuso remain at Truk.

Come back in October.

For fun I crawled into Truk early in 1943 (RSRD), since I was sad that I'd missed the flattops at the Battle of Santa Cruz and I sank a Yamato and Fuso, came back two weeks later and did exactly the same thing again. It was indeed a strange feeling. At least I sent a Kongo to the bottom out to sea so I didn't feel like all too much of a cheat... How does the spawning work for stuff like that anyway? Just like the original poster I hadn't ever found anything in Truk. Is it possible to sink 100 Yamatos, after a certain point in time for example?

100 perhaps not, but 10 is possible.

Ahh, but at least it's not restricted to the amount of Yamato derivates actually produced during the war? I mean, I bet you can sink lots of carriers at Midway and still see them in later battles (or later on back in Truk, respawned). The question is to what extent?

You may need to get closer in to pick up the ships. Truk is almost always full in 43 and 44. Mountains can block radar. Doe's seem with the latest RSRD you find ships more near the shallows behind the mountains.

All the ships have to respawn if you sink them so they can be at other historically correct places. However, you'll see them a lot less after they historically died if at all using RSRD.

You can sink the Yamato as many times as you want, and most capital ships. However, you will not see as many late war after they have been killed off for good. You'll seldom find a carrier in 45. All the ships respawn after you leave the contact zone. If you sink several ships in Truk, just leave the contact zone, come back and they will have spawned again. Eventually the setup will change, sometimes you find more or less, to eventually nothing after the allies take Truk.

Really a stock bug, but the last few months of the war the Yamato spawns over and over again in the Bungo....I sunk it twice the day before the war ended and once I had put 6 in it and was getting ready to fire to finish it and the war ended.

Default Thanks

The SJ-I reaches out 17 - 18 nm, and driving in to the edge of the shallows gives pretty much complete coverage, observed from more than one angle. I should at least have detected a picket tin can or two, shouldn't I? I need to go to Tulagi to refit - out of fish and I only have 123000 tons so far this patrol - and I'll check it out more closely when I get back. As far as feeling like a cheat taking out Jap steel in their harbors goes, sneaking in and especially out again is damned risky business.

Good hunting

Default What's with Truk? Reply

Hi guys
I am playing 1.5 RFB 2.0 + 1.5 Patch 2.0 (a great mod by the way) but I found this mod and thought you might want to try it in a single game mode. Indy

Truk Corals Harbours Cities Locations v1.0
By carotio

Last update: June 11th 2008

I have tried to rework the Truk atoll with the help of the terrain tool by ref and by kind info and images from akdavis: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=135442

I fully admit that this is not perfect, but it has taken me countless hours to rework from 1st version that I simply don't want to rework it further now. If you wanna do it, then fine with me. Just mention me as the original mod developper in your readme!

The mod includes:
Campaign_LOC which is my rework of the stock v1.5 file
[MapLocation 1009] to [MapLocation 1014] are the added harbours, cities and industry

SingleMission - is just for you to make a cruise, December 20th 1941, to see the atoll, sink the yamato and you'll see...

Terrain
The core of this mod, essential, it adds the terrain changes!

Good hunting
With TMO 1.9 RSRD 502.
The last version of RSRD most of the ships stayed parked right in front of Truk. The last 3 times I went in all the Capital ships were where all the first marks are, 1-7... Lurker reworked truk harbor for TMO, my guess is that overrode what was there before, thus things are different for Truk with 1.9

If you come in through the shallows where mark 8 is..the normal shipping lane, you won't get them on radar until you get closer up past the mountains, they show up at about the 13.5 mark on radar right as you clear the mountains. Have to remember mountains will block radar.

I believe the SJ1 in 1.9 is 30000 yards, which would be....about 14.9 NM's... Keeping in mind mountains will block radar.

Outside of the reef, not close enough to show, you do have some small openings you can come through more North, but even at the NW small openings at 15 nms they don't pick up on radar. Also, I didn't get any tin cans showing up. Before there was always several Momi DD's. There are some subchasers to the east, but no problems. Easy to come in from the shallows.

Some of the ships like a Fuso are almost next to land. You can dive to scope depth and attack without a problem...easy pickings, a few carriers, the Yamato, Fuso, Several CA's and many dd's...

Has to be the way Lurker changed it up, but almost always before the latest patch all the ships were near Truk with several escorts near the entrances, now they stay hidden behind the mountains and few escorts.
