Default SH5 Bandwidth Usage

This is a question for Neal.

As you appear to have a preview copy of the game I was wondering if you would be able to tell me what the bandwidth usage is for, say an hour's gameplay please?

I have asked ubi and they can't/won't tell me.

I don't want a huge debate, and if the answer is in the 53 page DRM thread I apologise for not spotting it.

Thanks.

I might be wrong, but that was the impression I got from the torpedo loading video thread.

Yes, he does.

It is a preview copy, not the finished game, and there appears to be some question as to the DRM functionality in the version he has.

It certainly didn't appear to pause when the internet connection lost message occurred. I am thinking that he must have intentionally pulled his cable during that to see what it would do. But if it doesn't work like the release version then it wouldn't seem to matter.

From what ive heard of the drm system (or whatever its now called) it doesnt upload/download masses of data during gameplay, just an occasional ping to the server to check you are still connected.

The only exception may be the synchronization of savegame files, or if it's streaming updates.

Why would their marketing people publish a press release that says it pauses the game if it doesn't?

More sheer Ubi PR genius?

Any number of reasons. The details of the DRM scheme may not have been finalized. They may have been changed. There may have been mis-communication. Left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing.

You know, standard operating procedure in the corporate world.

My guess is that the entire game currently is sitting at the production, packaging and shipping company and not on the designers desk doing final development.

If the drm in the preview copy is the same as what has been described to us, it might check for connection once a minute or every two minutes, or so. Neal may have been able to unplug and replug the cable between these checks. My question is whether the game noticed it was unplugged. We need him to unplug the cable, and see how long it takes to pause the game. We'll of course need him to repeat this many times for reliable data.

Meanwhile, while we work up a schedule for unplugging the cable, he can continue to take requests from everybody else for specific screen shots and video footage. Everybody has their pet details they want to see.

Or we can wait a few weeks and know everything.

Or we can finally see Ubi's "officers in charge" presenting FAQ on this issue... i.e. start doing their job.

yes, dan himself popped in on another thread and confirmed that the preview copy IS different from the real game.

so the preview copy is just for looking and test driving but not able to measure things like bandwidth usage or DRM/OSP and how that part will work.

But he also said he believed the DRM on Neal's preview was the real thing it will ship with.

So we'll see in March, I guess.
