Default Windows 7 help

Please, I lost my XP computer when the power went out in the blizzard last weekend, now another storm today.
Please could someone post a step by step process to get SH III, GWX and SH 3 commander into Windows 7.
So far it has been an exercise in futility.
I am not very computer literate so I work on the KISS principal.
Many thanks for assistance.

Haven't tried it, but some simple things to try: Right click on the executables (even the installers) and try them in XP compatibility mode, also make sure 'run as administrator' is selected. This is probably the more important of the two.

You'll need to do the same again; all executables should be run as an admin user, especially on software compiled pre-Vista.

solution

Hi there Rconch

I see you having trouble installing SH3++++
into Win7

I help you

Read what I am write very , very , very carefully ,
and you be there safe , then you can go out in that stormy Atlantic
and do your duty for " Das reich " , to sink mercants

Good Luck

-----------------------------------------------------------

I've seen a lot of people having trouble with Win7 and Sh3
I had it too , StarForce , ProgramFiles ( if installed the Sh3 in this directory) and more .

I came over a post from Thaum and suddently my problems solved
And now my Sh3 runs like a charm , smooth , to be honest , I don't see any thing with the game , no problems at all . I have installed :

* Sh3 + patch 1.v4b
* GWX3.0 GOLD
* SH3Cmdr3.2
* the newest JSGME + several mods

Be sure to follow EXACTLY what's been written in the post .

My personal thanks goes to Thaum

Here it is :

" Ok, I've got it running through the following steps. Perhaps it might help anyone else with problems in windows7:

1. Remove sf from previous installation with the official removal tool.

2. Re-install sh3 but do not run it yet.

3. patch it to 1.4b (run as administrator otherwise it won't work)

4. My version of sh3 came with sf, so I ran the crack, as posted above in this thread.

5. Change the desktop resolution to 1024 x 768.

6. run sh3 without the Cd in the tray.

7. go to options and de-select full screen so it will run sh3 in its own window. Exit sh3

8. Change desktop back to my original resolution.

9. Install Grey Wolves.

sh3/grey wolves now runs but in its own small window which I have to squint at, but it's better than nothing.

The alternative is to change my desktop resolution to 1024 x768 everytime I want to run sh3/grey wolves in full screen mode.

Thanks everyone.

I should of course add that I do not advocate using cd cracks etc. I bought sh3 when it first came out and consider myself to be an honest customer. The above simply enables me to continue enjoying the sim, and I'll be queueing up to buy sh5 when it's released ".

Thaum

GOOD LUCK everyone

Thanks, that was excellent.
The only issue I have is with the frame rate, I set the resolution on 1024x768, but when the game loads the monitor auto adjusts to 1920 everytime.
The crew for some reason have lost their bionoculars and some of the trees have lost their color and are white while others are colored.
The frame rate loss seems to only apply when on the bridge. VERY slow.
Any ideas?

Here is what you do

Hi there Rconch

Have you install the game in another direction example : C:\\ ?

The first thing you must do is :

Go to : " SilenthunterIII\data\cfg\main ".

open up the "Main" file and set the resolution to 1024 x 768 .

After you 're done that go to " My documents\Sh3\data\cfg\Main "

open up the " Main " file , and do the same .

You Must run the game as " Run as a administrator "
It is very very IMPORTANT you do that

Was this helpful ?

Please give me feedback

If the game is installed into a folder that does not reside in the C:\Program Files\ folder, then it is NOT neccesary to run the game (to play) as administrator. (running as administrator also forces SH3 to put the savegames into the 'Documents' folder of the Administrator account instead of your own ... not desireable!) Then it is also not neccesary to run JSGME as administrator to apply/disable mods. The simple solution is to replace the "Program Files" part of the default installation path by some other foldername you desire to put it in. The installer creates the path automatically. Just make sure you leave the back-slashes intact.

You only need to run the game installer, the 1.4 patch and the GWX mod/patch (or whatever other mod with an installer program) as an administrator. Which are 'one time occurances'. That's just because they function as installer/setup programs, and only administrator accounts are allowed to do this in Vista/Windows 7. Actually, also in XP, but every created useraccount is an administrator by default, so this issue never appeared as an annoyance.

I'm using win7 and sh3 with no poroblems...

a couple of questions first, what is your native screen res? (ie. I have a 24" widescreen monitor, with 1920x1080 native res). What Graphics card do you have?

If your having any corruption issues then I would just un-install and make sure you wipe out all traces of SH3 and starforce.

then reinstall as above, but in my experience the whole faffing about with changing res is not needed as My monitor just leaves black bars left and right, which to me is acceptable.

just make sure to apply the no-cd/dvd crack before play
