Default Ship length in recognition manual?

Damn, I just noticed that the in-game recognition manual lacks the length of the ship which is necessary for determining target speed using the fixed wire method. Anyone know of a mod to the recognition manual that includes the length?

You have to do this manually..
In the ."..GameFolder\Data\Sea", open each 'ship'.cfg file with Notepad.
In here is the shiplength... whether the game uses this length value or not, or if it is the same as the ship 3D model - I'm not sure.

It's probably not far off the mark, so can still be usefull.

Default Ship lengths

I took the images from the game and data from the manual to make a ship ID book. Using a program found on the Net, I did a conversion from meters to feet but I question the data from the stock manual. After getting the pages up, I d/l each image (right click, save as) and printed them to make a hard copy of the ID book. If I could lay hands on a digital copy of the 'real' Recognition Manual, I would love to post that for d/l.

Now that's something I'd love to have!

Hmmm...maybe I'll find my old SH1 disc and download and convert its Recog Manual. That had the lengths - used them for speed all the time.

In a pinch:

* A lot of people here state that the 'hash mark bar' under the ID picture is given in 90' increments. You could use that to estimate LOA.

* Really quick and really dirty - DDs: 300', CLs, CAs: 350+', BBs: 400', CVs: 450+ (or use 500'), MERCH: 250-300'.

The latter is frankly a crapshoot with eyeballs. Some other clues:

* A DD with a forward wake at the cutwater is probably 12 kt. A Merchie with the same I call 7-9 kt. A capital ship with the same is probably 18 kt.

I read here somewhere that all IJN capitals are 66' to the superstructure from the stem, except for the Yamato.

Repeat after me: 100 yards per minute is 3 knots! 100 yd/min = 3 kt!

Yes it does help. I have not ever replied to anyone, but I think the time you have taken to put into this effort should be recieved with a Thank You. I have copied all 24 pages, and I certainly appreciate your time and effort, this does help a great deal. I have figured out a Torpedo run Time table, but I am not good with computers, so maybe one day I might be able to upload that, gives the distance in yards, nm, and times for impact up to 4658 yards. Just by mathmatical figures of course, but a handy reference. Thanks again.
