Default Modders post here

How many of our modders will now not be purchasing Silent Hunter V unless there is a patch to allow offline access?

The answer to this will determine whether members who purchase the game will end up paying for mods disguised as add ons.

hmmmm only released mods for sh3 and then not for a while but no i for one wont be
tis not just the fact that you have to be online to play but I keep reading from " those who know DRM " about streaming updates which will make modding a complete waste of time

Not a waste of time for Ubisoft. They will mod the game and call the mods 'Add Ons'...and of course charge for them.

I have set a new poll up for when people will buy it, and well for my sake, it's gonna last a while, given the most recent news of "features" in SH5.
I can wait a year or two, as it looks now. Quite sad/mad about it really...
What I saw at the subsim meet, SH5 had promising perspectives...

Not touching it with a cattleprod.

Before i didn't think i would. Then i was in the process of changing my mind. Then the limited scope of the game swayed me away from it again, and then the DRM sealed the deal tighter then a dry welded nut on a 100 year old foundation bolt.

There goes one of my favorite modders. If Lurker is out too then who will put in the enormous amount of work extending the campaign to 1945? Answer Ubisoft.......as an add on and for a fee.

Starting to get the idea.....

I had hoped i could join the ranks of the creators, to help putting in what must be put in.
But... forget it.
Not like that.

Luckily (from a personal time standpoint) SH5 is a subject I don't care about in the least, so modding it wasn't even on the table for me (was waiting for Fleet Boats).

That said, modding is simply impossible under this scheme. You mod the thing, then one day it updates itself and wrecks the mod.

Sure, we have updates now, but people can hang back til their mod is fixed to be compatible. Since modded is usually the only decent gameplay...

So, if I read this right, we've moved from a game needing a lot of patching at release, to an unmoddable game needing a lot of patching at release.

I have been modding since SH2, later SH3 and finally SH4 (UBI games, cause I also have done mods for Dangerous Waters and racing sims like F1 Challenge)

But SH5 will remain out of my interest until the DRM is removed. No way am I going to tolerate that.

You make a mod. There are always some bugs. During the time period when you rush to squash the bugs, you feel responsible to the people that DLed it to fix it—fast. That is the principal factor in modder burnout, IMO. It's stressful to make something then have it be broken. At least when a patch comes out you can give a warning and say, "hey, don't EVEN install this update if you want to play my mod, cause it will crash." Or you might even say, "hey, this patch is not worth fixing this over, I'm gonna stop support above version X.XX."

With this, the stress will be over updates that smash things that no one has any control over. Not worth the trouble.

As long as DRM is out (either a patch or a "no-cd"), I'm in... The interface in particular needs some work
