I noticed that the enemy a/c are able to spot and bomb my boat at depths over 160'. The last time my boat got bombed despite diving to 160' well before the plane sighted us. Picked it up on radar, etc etc
Is this a difficulty tweak? Doesn't seem terribly realistic to me. Is there a way to tweak with the a/c settings without sh*t-canning the rest of the mod? Thanks.

Are you using TMO as well? I thought RSRDC only affected the campaign. TMO is famous for its 'evil aircraft'.
Many arguments have been made on this. In some situations you can easily see down 100', and the depth is measued to the bottom of the keel, so periscope depth is 65'. On the other hand, in some conditions the surface is opaque and you can't see the sub at periscope depth. I'm pretty sure it's a fairly easy thing to change, but someone who's actually done it will have to tell you how.

You'll seldom get hit that deep, but I've taken damage. Like the other fella said, I didn't think RSRD changed ac settings. Not sure about the bombs.
They basically carry two types of bombs, one will blow shallow, one is set to blow deep, about 150ft and can damage you at 165 ft, if it's a bullseye, may sink you. Not sure if RSRD in itself has shallow and deep bombs, but if that's all you're playing, guess so. However, TMO makes the planes evil, making you easier to spot through the water. So much depends on water conditions. If the water is calm, you're much easier to see as would have been in real life. Just take your cam and get in the sky and look down at your sub in calm water. I've spotted mine in 250ft deep water. This is realistic and JP planes carried bombs that would go deep. If you use the cam and pause button off and on you can easily watch the bombs and track them and see how they work and where they go off. Just pause when they hit the water and go find em with the cam, then activate a second, pause, ect..repeat until the bomb goes off. You may want to check the mods section, they may have mods, but it's also posted everywhere on how to change the settings, so try a search using keywords and you should find something.....but why change reality. |

Running RFB 1.52 as well. Thnx for the replies; I was aware of the TMO a/c capabilities, but this came as quite a surprise, I can tell you.
Still, it seems a tad unlikely that an a/c cruising at 1000' or higher can spot a sub at 160' depth.

Not sure about RFB, sure they made it somewhat stronger. Aircraft could see subs in the right water conditions in WW2 in fairly deep water. Mostly depends on weather and water condtions. TMO can get a little unrealistic at times with planes, but that makes it fun.
Still, planes should never harm you unless you get caught in shallow water. If I get one on radar, always have plenty of time to reach the depths before they drop. Do have to be careful early war if you don't have radar. |
