Default Tearing?

hello all,

After a few years away from SH 3, I saw there is still much interest and support for this wonderful sim and had to give it another go....

I've tried both GWX Gold and LSH 5.1 as mod upgrades and am having the same problem.....

Install seemed to go ok and on load up in the Command Room I thought...WOW! How much have I missed!!!

Then I went on deck....and my sea sucks! There's a black (sometimes white) line runs off to the horizon at approx. 45 degrees from port side which moves around as I view and the wave textures seem hit and miss...inconsistent at best. Every other aspect seems great, internal views etc
Does this sound like graphic tearing? or something else?

I've tried all sorts of searches and tried various different settings adjustments in nvidia settings and the 'Inspector' downloaded app. I've tried forcing vSync, checking synchronisation etc But am not getting anywhere. The tearing isn't evident in stock SH3 sea but is exactly the same in either GWX or LSH 3. Yes...seperate installs !!

I'm running a laptop with:-
Intel i5-3210M
GeForce GT 640M 2 GB
8 GB memory
Windows 7

I get a reading of 6.9 in Windows performance rating for gaming graphics. Please tell me I can run this mod!!! And then tell me how!
And yes, it is switching to the graphics card via Optimus....I have downloaded all components needed/installed to specification such as 4GB upgrade, DX9 etc, based on clean installs...starforce removal etc etc

Thanks in advance

Are you sur you've cleared out the registry files from your system before performing a new install?

Hi,

Try download newest graphic drivers and do it manual way. Do a clean reinstall of graphic drivers. I have a feelng that your system needs some clean up to do. If you're downloading drivers relying on any software that offers you to find correct drivers for your hardware, you're hurting your OS digestive system. Remove any driver inspectors etc. remove old graphic card drivers, restart pc, launch a registry clean expert sweep twice. Open C:\Windows Temp and Prefetch folders and delete everything from these folders. Reinstall new graphic drivers and you should be good to go.

Why have you installed DX9 if by default Win7 uses DX11 ?

I tried DX9 because during numerous forum searches it was recommended because there's things in DX9 that SH3 needs that are not in DX11....anyway....

I have traced the problem and it's Optimus (graphic switching) not liking the HiRes widescreen fix! For some reason, the dedicated graphics will work fine without the fix but as soon as it's enabled, nvidia software switches back to integrated graphics.

Not the first person to suffer and can't find an answer as yet so it's widescreen with detail and tears....widescreen in stock SH3 no tears or waste a lovely 17 laptop screen with full mods and details....ho hum....experience slightly tarnished whichever way.

Thanks for thoughts though

There are a lot of ppl pretending to know what they talk about in forums, when they actually don't. Only the minority of answers in the forums can lead you to the right direction of solving the issue.

Present time running GWX on my Win7 64 bit with DX11 just fine.
My screen resolution is 1440x900 widescreen. I already used to have a bit streched graphics, cuz resolution fix does not work for me as it should anyway. Rez fix works ok only on 4:3 aspect ratio rez like 1024x768.

Thanks for inputs but as I said...I've now learned it's not a SH3, or screen or mod issue. It's not even limited to Silent Hunter.

Basically, Optimus can't read .dll files, there's a thousand posts out there about it. As soon as I use the hires mod, it can't initialise the dedicated graphics because of the d3d9.dll file so opts back to intel integrated. As yet seems to be no fix and nVidia seem to be losing a lot of friends!!!

Thanks again though

So what has changed over the years?

Well perhaps no or perhaps yes you should be more prescriptive.

The SubSim community in general is IMHO one of the best on the internet.

Accuracy is key.

How come the best ? How can you tell ? It's just another community out of thousands for me. what's so special in here ? I really can't see.

Or perhaps you felt like I steped onto your foot somehow and it has nothing to do with this forum itself ? The guy has graphical problems, you asked him wether he has cleaned his registry from former SH3 Well... That is not really related to be true..
