You know, it's very interesting. Starforce is here hawking another website. He is allowed by Subsim policy to do this, as the water is warm and Subsim doesn't need to fear any competition.

But you get over to Starforce's site and what do you find? If you so much as mention Subsim, your post gets deleted! Hell, seems fair to me! NOT. That's predatory. Good thing I'm not a moderator here or there would be an ultimatum delivered here. You keep a level playing field or take your ball and go home. You depend on being a parasite to Subsim and Ubi Forums for anyone at all to know about your site. They don't depend on you or care if you even exist. Yet you trample on them as if they threaten your existence. Your arrogance is astounding and were I king of the world, it wouldn't be tolerated.

So yes, if it's a community site, their mod site or other similar type of site they are most certainly allowed to have it in their signatures here.

I don't know what your problem with me is..but I am trying to help this community. People complain about user files getting deleted, obviously when BTS mods died it was a loss to the community, however it was before I was part of it, none the less, all websites can fail or require downtime, subject to hacking ect. Having multiple hosts is beneficial. I realise filefront hasn't been exactly a gold star of service and warm fuzzyness of late..I'm a long time vetran of BCfiles.com and I feel it too, I've put alot of hard work into making that site a pillar of the community, the fact that a 10 year old game is still so heavily modded by individuals paramount would be foolish to not hire is a testiment to what it's become, and I hope I can do the same for you. I've got no skills as modeler, or a modder, aside from some simple missions fourth comming (whoopeee) so I give back where I can.

Now I ask you...kindly stop attacking me..you have no basis for your arguements and I have no desire to fight you.

The high interactivity of this site should be considered a luxury, not a right. If you cannot follow these simple rules, you can and will be warned or banned from the comments, site or the entire network for any period of time.

Reads pretty clearly to me. I quoted the rule. Why do you put up a smokescreen? Why are you afraid to play fair? What advantage does it give you to deny the right to post mentioning Subsim? Why do you call me a liar when I reproduced your rule from your own website? Why do you conclude I have a personal dislike of you? Why would the exact behavior you feel free to engage in here and at Ubi Forums result in warning or banishment from your forum?

Unless you can establish that I made the rule up and it does not exist on your site, you are wrong in calling me a liar and in violation of Subsim rules against personal abuse. I see your accusation and call. Let's see the cards. Eliminate or clarify the rule.

I am not wrong..you boasted we made no mention of subsim or other sites, which is untrue. Atleast the ones I personaly know are there, there are probably more out there I don't know about. You also did not make it clear you were refering to file comments (instead of the forums, as I thought) since you seemed to be taking issues with either the ad in my sig or the fact that I am using it to host my mods. If you want to talk name calling and personal attacks, you called me a parasite..but I'll overlook that...since I've been called worse by little children on my school bus route. Oddly enough, the proper defenition of a parasite is something that lives off of a host. The purpose of the silent hunter site is to provide a service to, not leech off of, the community. It is up to each file owner to decide to host with us, and they retain the rights to their files.

But let me first start by saying that comment policies are standard network wide rules, this means all gaming sites, not just silent hunter. No one is singeling out this community. These rules have worked with no detriment to the community in bridge commander since I took over in 2002, so over 7 years, and for bridge commander it's gamming site is far more important and relied upon for more heavily than here, since it is basicly the only host, so if they can handle it, I'm sure you can too.

File comments are not, however, forums. They are treated as threads, where the subject is the mod posted above, thus "hey visit my site" posts are generaly off topic spam. For instace, if FOTRS came over to subsim and started a thread about a new version of their mod, you wouldn't reply to that thread with an offtopic post about your website. You might ask them permission to host their mod, but generaly posting just to advertise would be rude..sorta like conyay west interrupting taylor swift about beyonce's video, or turning a certain german sub school release thread into a circus...in 2 forums.. Unlike a forum, where there is a general topic (modding), which would include the need for discussing some kind of mod hosting solution at some point, the topic of the comments at the filefront sites are determined by whatever poll, mod, picture of the day, news item, they are posted under. so if you are commenting under the FOTRS mod, you'd better be talking about the FOTRS mod, not your own site, or your own mod.

Now, there's always going to be special cases. For example, maybe FOTRS has decided to request beta testers, so one of the team comes over to my site and posts under their mod a link to their forum and asking for beta testers and bug reports (though TBH, a promenently featured news item would suit this better) or perhaps someone was getting a horrible connection with filefront to download their mod, and someone posted a link to Bts or subsim so they could try that download instead (hey..we want them to be able to get the file..) and the player leaves happy, which is the goal.

Plus, there are 2 other obvious reason not to allow comments to be used to advertise:
1) We have a dedicated page, linked on the left side of the main screen, to advertise links. Comment posts are seen by alot of people only so long as said mod is popular/hot/new. The links page is visited constantly, any time people want to know whats out there, it's all in one spot.
2) We have a discussion forum, also linked on the left side menu, which includes a forum for modding and one for clans, if you have a clan site, you should post there.


Now, I understand not everyone is going to like us. If you're going to be one of the ones that don't, fine. But there's really no need to publicly bad-mouth someone or some entity that's trying to help. It's childish at best. At worst, it hurts the growth of a community more than you think you're helping it.

I'm asking you one last time...knock it off. I coulda made a mission in the time and effort I spent on your crap. Which do you think I'd rather be doing?

Again, you ignore my specific and quoted issue. You specifically called me a liar after I published the truth. You only hurt yourself and damaged your own credibility. Level the playing field. Eliminate or modify the rule. Then I'll be happy. Then you might be able to attract some traffic.

You complain about the time you spend making excuses, when five minutes modifying the rule would have fixed your problem. Then you play for sympathy. Bad strategy.

Tell you what. You fix it and I'll be happy to urge everybody in both forums you depend on for your survival (hence the proper use of the word parasite. A parasite glider, for instance is one attached to a powered airplane, depending on it for power to get to a place from which it can detach and glide to a landing spot. This is in contrast to a towed glider.) to use you as an alternate source.

There's nothing I can do about it. I just told you it's network wide..for all sites, put in there when the head guys they create the sites. I don't even have access to it. I already explained that comments under a file/news/ect need to be about the file/news/ect, the same way you can't advertise your site in other peoples threads here (unless it relates to the thread's topic) and I'm not going to have the comments under peoples mods constantly hijacked. We have a designated spot for promoting sites. We expect you to use that.

Yea I'm sorry this thread has degraded into..this..but I wont just sit idle while I'm being publicly attacked. I think people are smart enough to figure out why that rule is there and that it is not harmfull but to go as far as saying "we don't mention other sites" ect can't be farther from the truth. Honestly I'm surprised a mod hasn't been in here yet. He already got my thread nailed at ubi. Oh well. I'll repost it soon...I'm going to start work on planes and a battlefleet versions of the subschool..plus I might do a walthers boat trial.
