RSRD 100 realism Left Midway in November 1943 in USS Herring-Gato class, patrol area was southeast of Okinama in the "Japanese-Palau" shipping lanes. After a long trip and couple weeks in patrol area, with only sampans and one lone range air patrol sighted, worked up a leg heading north 60 miles off Okinawa coast then on to Midway.Around 1700 on 16 December 1943, ship spotted.SJ radar did not detect target for some reason.Could tell from the bridge had a large ship.Went to GQ and began closing in, soon could see this was a large warship moving fast, soon target was 5 miles off, so I pulled the plug and closed in.Five minutes later, I slowed and took my first obseration with scope and could tell had a heavy cruiser, moving fast, unescorted.Several more looks and plotting showed target was moving at 18.5 knots and at my current speed I would be able to fire from 1500 yards, ideal shot. After flipping through ID book, settled on Maya heavy cruiser.Set torpedos and opened tubes, entered some up to date info on target, rechecked speed and continued to close at ahead standard.Sonar soon reported target was speeding up, so up scope and rechecked, same speed on plot, so didnt increase much. This look was critical though for I noticed now that I was close, this cruiser was not exactly a Maya, another look comparing details showed I had a 9,000 ton Furataka Heavy Cruiser.Reset torpedo depth to 10 and 12 feet instead of 15. Raised scope on firing obseration, fired six Mark 14's from 1480 yards all aimed at different areas along ship, then went to right full rudder to bring stern tubes around for another shot, but no need.Five of six fish hit the cruiser, which slowed then 47 seconds after last torpedo impact, a huge secondary explosion rocked the ship and it was reported as sinking. A post sinking check revealed no life boats, but multiple bodies among the floatsam, was rather shocked to see that in the mod. Headed for home and arrived on December 29, 1943. Ironically, December 16 is my actual birthday, nice present. Some shots, thought I got one of the wreckage and bodies but it didnt save. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Nice going, first patrol and got a heavy cruiser. I haven't even seen a legit task force in the last nine patrols.

Yeah! Nice one!
![]() I don't know what kind of GFX-Card you have, but maybe you want to take a look at this thread: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=128517 It really helps the experience with some full screen Antialiasing and stuff, especially if you look at the Masts and Wires. http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=sh4_2vfbg.jpg

You're in here bragging about one kill...Shame on you. It that the best you can do? Why I'm sure you're proud, this isn't your usual patrol bubble. Your past patrols were much better, so let's get with it son.
