Nhancer issue with SH3 Mods

Hi all!

I am hoping someone can help me with what is probably a really simple problem, but I have tried absolutely everything and searched everywhere and I am still without a fix to this:

I have been playing GWX 3 with a few mods including the "SH4 effects for SH3" (the updated version from Asanovic). Everything has been working great, including the thick, black smoke that came with the SH4 effects mod.

Then, of course, I had to go and download Nhancer at the recommendation of a buddy. I figured there could be no harm since everyone seems to love it.

(I have a duoCore processor, GTS 250 video card and running XP)

Now, here is the problem. I set everything up, and everything looks fine except for the thick, black smoke. The reflection in the water is perfect, with the excellent thick smoke reflecting in the water. BUT...the smoke above the ship is the thinner, less realistic looking smoke!

If I select the box to have "Enhance in game AA", the smoke then looks great both in the sky and in the reflection. But then I get all sorts of jaggies, etc.

If I de-select that box, it goes back to perfect image quality with no jaggies, great smoke in the water reflection, but not as good of smoke above the ship again.

Sorry to be long winded, but wanted to make sure I got the information out there as good as possible. I have tried all sorts of different settings, but keep getting the same smoke result, with just different image qualities.

Thanks in advance for any help someone can give me!

Dale

I use nHancer as well as SH4 Effects and I have no problems. I followed the instructions in the thread below and everything is rosy for me. I think the main point is that you should only set AA to Multisampling 4x, anything above causes the sun halo to vanish and may be the cause of your smoke woes. Anyway, here's the link:

A little offtopic but i started to use thise program for some time now and so far i only have a positive opinion about it. Its look fine with Sh4 (using rubini metod), in other games grafic glithes with antialiasing filter are more or less gone. Never notice such improvment on Nvidia panel for example, i think they hide some option that Nhancer have.
Anyway good luck with the program , and have a nice day.

I have had similar problems with Nhancer so I don't use it any more (with XP); but I might try it again now that I have Windows7.
Do you have the latest drivers for your video card?

Hi,

Thanks all for the replies and links.

I believe I have the latest driver for my video card, but will double check tonight.

I will keep you all updated and if I get it fixed will let you know what did it just in case someone else runs into this problem.

Thanks again!

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know I got the problem solved. I just had too much AA going on..as weird as that sounds...and I also wasn't thoroughly reading the instructions on the best setup for SH3 in Nhancer. (Rubini's)

Now everything is super sharp, great smoke both above and reflected in the water.

Thanks again for the help!

Great. I tried nHancer on my Windows7 and got it to work (using Rubini's specs). My picture looks good and my frame rate is fine.

Thats great Irish!

It seems so odd that if you put more AA, you can mess up the image! (especially with a high end machine that can easily handle it)

I think I had a similiar problem once before with some other game where if you set your Anti-aliasing too high it would cause jaggies, etc.

Oh well, all is good now and that is what counts!

Depends on game engine itself mate, nothing to do with hardware
