Default If a Solar Storm hits aka Carrington Event of 1859..........

Ok

I was on Youtube searching Solar Storms, but if the event of 1859 were to hit again, since we're much more developed since 1859,how much damage would it do since nowadays we have cellphones,TV,computers, internet, also what will the damage be done by a Solar Storm on public transport since some cities do run trains which rely on electricity.

I always get a kick out of the "Solar storm will fry the electrical grid" statement.

But it makes for dramatic TV

See theres these nifty little devices called overcurrent protective devices and surge suppression arrestors.

While there may be a momentary interruption It wont 'fry' the grid. Unless your in some third world country whom dont utilize such protective devices or at least use 'cheap' versions.

I would be more concearned by someone hacking the system(s). This weakness will be made even weaker with the proposed 'smart grid'.

A solar storm like that today would probably cause more damage due to the ozone layer gone!!

Hmm...

Im sure it would do damage... but not *fry* the power grid...

some electronics will act up/ get messed up probably...

(I dont think that the ozone layer would help slow a solar storm reece...)

The bigger effects would probably be the northern lights farther south, some power service interfearence... (espceialy is 3rd world countrys...)

maby like I said before electronics damaged/acting up...

ect... it wont distroy the worlds entire power system...
