Hi guys,
I want to travel the world of Silent Hunter III which means heading down to South America and Asia - basically exploring. To go where no U-Boat has gone before! But even at 18 knots, unlimited fuel and 1024x time compression this will still take quite some time. Now I've read that some folks here have edited some files which makes the top speed of the U-Boat now between 30-40 knots or higher. I am aware that anything faster than this might cause the boat to fly out of the water (seemed to have read that somewhere here). My question is, which file do I need to edit and what exactly do I need to edit? Would be nice if someone could copy and paste the exact passage of the appropriate file with the necessary edits. Thanks! ![]() |

You need to adjust the .sim file for your u-boat using S3D.
You'll find it under unit_<UnitType> For example, for the IXB uboat you would open the data\Submarine\NSS_Uboat9b\SS_Uboat9b.sim file and locate chunk unit_Submarine. You can then select the property you need. Thanks should go to Commander Gizmo for this one - he told me how to do it.

Just a word on this: If you only adjust the max speed, your ship will take a very, very long time to get there. You should also increase the horsepower in order to get up to speed quickly and maintain the speed in bad weather. Once that is done, you should probably change the speeds for each setting on the telegraph if you want to be able to pick a particular speed over 20 knots.

I usually edited the MAN machine boost in Basic.cfg file for something of 5.00 and at full ahead I got 52 Knots

Whenever I had the reports of enemy convoys I was literally destroying them..altough i found a problem....trying to surface with snorkel up makes the trip a bit bouncy, specially on a XXI, can hit depths of 25 meters while "surfaced" at least 2-3 times before stabilizing at 6 meters.
You can add up the mod of "satellite view" which shows you the localization of all the convoys in the map ![]()
