Default COD 2

Call of Duty 2 -
just had this game arrive through my door from play.com and have encountered a problem:

Game installs off the DVD with no problem and all authorising stuff present and accounted for, but when you try and run the game it returns the 'DVD not recognised - insert correct disk' error.
For a brand new game this is a pisser. I had a similar issue when I bought the Medal of Honor 'Warchest' edition and ended up solving it in the same way as COD2 (see below).

I have since remedied this by downloading and installing files to run the game without the disk... but really I should not have to do this on a new game.
Has anybody else got the same problem with this game, if so did you get it fixed to work correctly?
I'm speculating that there might be some sort of conflict between the copy protection on various games I have installed- maybe the SF drivers on SH3 and Sniper Elite 2 are interfering somehow?
Failing that there's something else amiss.

Yeah - I almost bought this game but had to check the copyprotect 1st. Turns out to be Safedisc, so it is OK. One thing that bothered me is their disclaimer on the outside of the box that says it may not work in all drives!!! Did you see that?

Andway, do what I did to make sure everything works - go out and buy yourself a crappy Sony DVD-ROM drive (non-burner) for about $20 - It will not have a problem with anything!!! It is one of the 3 drives in my sys.

I have an LG DVD burner and had no issues installing the game yesterday. I had to create an account with STEAM and there is no need for the DVD to be in the drive.

lol uhm this might be an odd question, but after reading OP I find myself wondering, Is there really a Sniper Elite 2? I've not heard of it! Can't seem to find any info on it either. Somebody care to tell me about this? I played Sniper Elite and kinda enjoyed it back in time (super buggy pos though).

Probably a typo in my original post :/

Dunno about a Sniper Elite 2 game... however I do know that some months back/last year maybe, there was talk of the hosting servers being shut down (result being no one could play multiplayer anymore) but the SE community made lots of noise and the publishers decided to keep the servers open.

There's also a community patch that deals with certain bugs and allowing the game to see new servers (if the old ones were shut down) so peeps could still play online.
Here's a search from google:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...meta=&aq=f&oq=

Have a flick through, there's some good links from gentlemenofthescope clan, tells you what it's about.

*As far as I'm aware SE still works online, but I've not played recently.
