I tried using a couple of "cutie" torps in the stern tubes, but I didn't have any good results.I thougt with them being a homing torpedo,I might get lucky trying to get rid of a tincan that is pursuing my sub.Anyone having a better idea let me know please.

The MK.27 is not a good torpedo against destroyers becouse they have a max speed of 27 knots while the destroyers have a speed of 30-35 knots.

only 12 knots actually, but I can see that you only were confused by all the numbers
![]() Interesting link: http://www.bergall.org/cutie.html Think of the Cutie as a last chance weapon against slower escorts, nothing more. Use it for anything else and you are wasting it.

Short range, real close up and personal, shoot and go deep and quiet. If there is no BOOM then rinse and repeat. If you have to resort to the cutie you have already screwed the pooch so any thorough pasting you get is well deserved.

what about a head on shot from you're stern tubes?? i bet she'd blow if you ran it under her hull it would still be going for the props....
i used to shoot them off and they would often circle back and get a depth charging tin can

Yep! Just set them on "magnetic fuse" + correct depth and you have a fair chance! ![]() //OB

its been a while since i used em but if i remember correctly they need to pass within 400m of the intended target to "lock on" or they just keep going straight so you need to aim them you just dont have to be all that accurate.
as mentioned they are pretty slow so only use them for merchants and they are best used in convoys to ensure it locks onto something. i would use them in sonar guided aiming at convoys while dodging DD where i couldnt do any real aiming, fire and forget hoping to get lucky. |

i disagree with the merchant idea. they don't have enough kick to sink a larger ship..unless it's small. you could cripple on and finish it off but i would rather shoot off the front 6 and dive if you ask me.
id save the cuties for a last resort type of thing. and i usually only load 2 so i an use the other 2 stern tubes as a secondary salvo for more convoy killing. ![]()

I've hit and crippled Heavies with them, like light cruisers or heavy cruisers..when the convoy is scattering they often lock on to the props of a ship with no room to manuver or blow the props off a circling DD. Often it atleast blows the rear racks off rendering the DD essentially useless and smokeing which make it easy to keep track of from a distance.
Edit: Has anyone done a cutie that puts a smiley on the front?

A little proceedure I've developed for dealing with nasty Jap tin cans.
You've just attacked a convoy, or taskforce, and are still at periscope depth. Find the closest tin can, as they will be the one to detect you first. Turn so you're stern on to him. Set the Cutie's pistol to magnetic. Find the depth of the tin can, and set the Cutie's depth just a little below that. Open two tubes. Once you get him to start following you, go to ahead flank. Wait until he's about 1000 to 1100 yards and then fire the 2 Cuties, with a 10 to 15 second interval. He should be directly astern when you fire so the fish go straight for him. I've sunk, and or crippled quite a few tin cans this way. So I like them little red devils. They do come in handy.
