Default Paranoid about my saves.

Hello one and all. Looks like there is an utterly amazing community floating around SHIII! Some of the mods people here have created over the years are beyond incredible!

Shame the stock SHIII has it's fair share of minor oddities. Such as rather irrational way it handles saved games. I can live with "load this game and everything beyond is destroyed!" just fine.
"Delete this game and everything beyond it is destroyed" caught me off guard. Apparently safe amount of other overall Fubarness exists.

Er so! long story not short enough, which files do i have to copy if I wish to create a backup of a saved game? Is it possible in first place? If so, does manually restoring a saved game in that way increase risk of instability in some way?
Any other tips or suggestions how to ensure I don't get any nasty surprises some 20 patrols from now?

Other random inquiries:
Are there any finished Mods out there that enable me to walk around freely in my precious sub?
..Or mods(beyond the lovely SH3 Commander) that somehow make "my character" more present in game?Ie add him among the crew of the ship and whatnot.

Well, im not to sure about savegames. But i do occasionaly backup an entire career by copying documents/SH3/data/cfg/careers/[commander name]. Thats where all your saves are kept, if in doubt backup everything i say.

This mod will allow you to wander about your sub freely, similar to the shift+F2 view.

I'm pretty sure there aren't many of us left playing the stock, (upgrading Sunday to GWX3), I am one and have had no issues with saves, loading saves or anything too out of the ordinary actually, so long as patched to 1.4 and you're not saving mid-patrol that will keep things stable.......
your saves are located in MyDocuments which i'm sure you know so would assume you could back up the save files and keep for any emergencies or future discrepancies...........never had the need to try this though so cannot confirm......
happy hunting Kaleun

I remember my self in the same paranoid thing when i played 1.0. Affter 4 attempts of devs, they made things right and i never had a save problem as long as i save on surface and far from ports or land. I also plan a time when to save and when to play in case of attempts to sneak to enemy ports and etc....

That looks utterly amazing!
....And actually sounds amazing aswell. Very crafty usage of Das Boot soundtrack there.
