Promotions past Lieutenant?

I've never played long enough to see for myself but is this possible? Looking at old manifests alot of subs had multiple CMDR's or LT. CMDR's. Heck, I even saw one with a Capt. It seems that at the current rate of experience gain it would take at least 17 or 18 patrols to break 20,000 (roughly 900 each run). Any way to mod this rate gain or change the starting point or any tips to gain experience faster?

of course theres mods. i personally dont know any but theres mods for just about everything. and Ummmmm 900 exp is NOTHING. ive had ppl gain 2 ranks on ONE patrol. I also havent seen any of my men go PASt Lt but it MaY be possible in the game. in real life theres No doubt.

2 Ranks, if he started from Seaman, is theoretically 1400 or so (i forget the exact numbers). So if you stayed out long enough that's possible. I just looked at averages and it seems it would take longer than the war to reach higher ranks. The CPO player data contains tags for everything up to Admiral, just wasn't sure how they come to bear in the game. It also contains a spot for "starting experience" and didn't know if changing that will actually carry to the crew select screen. Anyone out there done it through changing the file or actually sailing that long?

Well, I figured out how to allow for the base promation of a LT. The problem now is that anything over LT. changes the avater in the crew management screen to that of a seaman. NEW QUESTION...anyone know how to change this so that he looks like an officer and also diplays the sleeve emblem of a Lt. Commander or higher?
