Default Wish him luck!

Sending another student up for his private pilot check ride today!

it is 11:00am in Texas right now, the event is scheduled for 1:30pm

if all goes according to plan, he will have an oral exam until about 3:30 and his flight will depart around 4:00pm and return just after 5:00pm

he has worked hard, he is well prepared and deserves the license.

Best of luck Jack!!

Can't wait for the day I go for my Private Pilots license, will definitely going for it once I get my life sorted and stabilized.

Love planes, always have. One point in my life I was considering trying to become an Airline pilot but I really can't see myself flying one of those bloody huge jets. :rotfl:

Those bloody huge jets are easier to fly than the cessna. But when the s!^t hits the fan.........you better be able to fly the airplane.

Well the oral exam was "perfect", the flight went fine except he badly bounced his "short field" landing... in getting it back on the ground he had passed the point where he was supposed to have the airplane stopped

and the examiner pulled the plug.

he has to go back monday and repeat the maneuver.

to be honest... the short field landing is one if his BEST maneuvers. we have had numerous competitions with one another on short field landings and he beats me about 50% of the time. (unless we fly the Cessna 150... i can VTOL that damned thing )

it was the last thing we expected him to dork up today.

the thing is... you have to do a "firm" and "flat" landing to make the short field landing work... however his landing was not flat enough and it was too firm.

this resulted in a minor bounce of about 6 to 8 feet.

of course during the course of the bounce you have NO braking friction with the ground (as you are not in contact with it)

so he floated about 200 - 300 feet past the point on the runway he was supposed to be stopped by.

not the first time... wont be the last. he knew what he did wrong, and explained in detail how he should have fixed it.

better luck Monday. the guy is sharp... i would trust him to carry ANY member of my family as a passenger.
