Default Passenger/Cargo

What h*#l is wrong with this ship. Mere 2000+ tons and it always needs at least two torpedoes. Specially annoying with type II.

Yesterday I sunk 12 000 ton whale factory ship with single hit. It took about 45 mins to sink. Passenger/cargo was in good position behind my boat so I launched an aft torpedo towards it and scored a hit. I hoped it would sink in rough seas.

How come 12 000 tonner sinks easier than 2000 ton dinghy?

I have noticed that its all about torpedo placement. I shot a whaler (at 90 degrees) with 1 fish mid-ship, dove under him, and hit him with a stern shot mid ship as well...ship went down. Same convoy and reloaded tubes, I shot a C2 (@ 70 degrees) aft of the stacks, fore of the stacks, right on the bow, and my last torpedo went mid-ship. It finally sunk.

Tried another C2 (@90 degrees) with 2-almost simultaneous fish at mid-ship and she breaks and sinks.

Im thinking angle on the bow (90) and placement (mid-ship) are critical to this game, regardless of amount of torpedoes fired. There is also a distance factored in there, as the longer the run of the fish, the more damage. I havent proven this, but im suspicious. I shoot at <500m. Just my observations.

With GWX and if the Wx is cooperating, I find that I attain a lot more single aal hits and sinkings when using the magnetic fuse. Angle of attack doesn't matter very much when you slip a magnetic influence detonator under her keel.

On another thread that i posted, most Captains aimed for the bow or before the amidships slightly, If I can find the thread, I'll just post the quote.

If you hit the ship in the bow, it seems to have a better chance of sinking

Quoting Otto Kretschmers Ship log (in volume 1 clar blair pg 198-199)

"At 700 meters, hit forward of amidships. Vessel of some 6500 tons sinks within 20 seconds. I nowproceed head on into the convoy. All ships zig zagging independently."
"Fire a bow torpedo at a large freighter. As teh ship turns towards us,, the torpedo passes ahead of her and hits an even larger ship after a run of 1740 meters. This ship is of some 7000 tons is hit abreast the foremast."
"Fire bow torpedo at the next large vessel of some 7000 tons. Range 975 meters. Hit abreast foremast."
"Third attempt (Third attempt because previous 2 had gyroscope failures)at the same target from a range of 720 meters. Hit forward of the bridge. Bow sinks rapidly level with the water."
"Hit aft of amidships. Ship drops astern, somewhat lower in the water. As torpedoes have been expended, I wait to see if she will sink further before I settle her with gunfire." (proves bow shots sink faster then stern shots. He got half credit with the last ship, as U-123, ((Moehle was the captain)), The ship was a 3106 tonner.

you are right, but there's one limitation: rough seas.
even up to April1942 the magnetic pistol turns out to be not reliable.
still having a lot of premature detonations in heavy wheather.
I mostly use then impact fuses and change the depth of the torpedo to 2-3m (depending on the ship's type)

Also noticed this little problem with the passenger/cargo ships.
I read somewhere in this forum that it has something with the shape of their hull,so that is why they are so tough.

So I stopped wasting my eels on them.If the weather allows sink them with the deck gun,if not let them go.(Just don't tell Doenitz!)
