3 and 5 are. Don't know about 4 (never played it).

If 3 is the 4 certainly is, being 3 with some modifications.

I say "if" in response to the above post. For myself, I'm still stuck with XP.

SHIII works on windows 7. As long as 8 has the same ability to run a program in an earlier version of windows you should be okay. Right click SHIII, go to properties, click the compatibility tab, and you should be okay. (now this is for windows 7, but windows 8 is similar.

Second that. I'm running 8.1, but I run SH3 (Commander and GWX) under 7.

Default Windows 8.1

Can confirm SH4/ WoP appears to run fine with 8.1.

If you don't install the game in the Program Files (x86 or nothing) folder then most issues are avoided.

I have tried to run sh4 in windows 8...Nope ain't gonna happen,i tried with a x86 install point, program files, and separate sh4 folder...The base game without "ANY MODS" works...If you add mods expect to do a system recovery..I did buy the hp restore disks so I was prepped for the major crash...Me I miss sneaking up on japs and ruining there day...I hope someone finds a way to resolve this...

Here I have installed SH5 and SH3 on Windows 8 and everything works well. For SH3 there's no need to run it in compatibility mode(in the case it's needed run it in compatibility mode for windows xp service pack 3).The only important thing is that you run it always as "Administrator" and that you place the main SH3/5 folder in a place where win 8 permits you to save(here I have them in C:/Programs (x86)/Ubisoft).
Do not place the folder in C:/Programs or win 8 will not permit you to modify files in the future in the case it's needed.
Hope it helps!
