Hey folks. I used to chill around here but I've stopped playing the game for a while... But now decided I'd try my hand at this again.
I re-installed the game with GWX gold, OLC mkiid & the TMT mod. Now I didn't use to play the game with OLC so that might be why I'm so confused... But where is my boat on the map? I can use the rings tool in the periscope somewhat accurately but one thing I am missing is the ability to efficiently plot a target's location. The way I used to do was to make the observation - say 3400m down bearing 305 - and to go into the nav map to use first the angle tool to mark the correct bearing and then the ruler to measure out the correct distance. But that can't be done if I don't know where my own boat is. So how do I get around that? The way I'm used to sinking stuff is plotting the course, getting ahead and waiting patiently for a 90AOB shot at a predetermined range, which I know precisely from having plotted their course and measured the distance between it and my boat on the map. So what am I missing? EDIT Just thought that one possible solution would be to use the map as a drawing board... Aka pick an arbitrary point as the start and then track my own position by means of a stopwatch and dead-reckoning. I suppose that's how the real kaleuns did it back in the day. Anyone else do that? There must be an easier way.

I have the same problem, you cannot see your boat on the map but you can see it on the torpedo screen (question mark on).
It is quite difficult to understand the bearing, heading etc. etc. in OLC Gold MkII. In this specific case you cannot compare it with the stock game. You cannot even see the target on your map either. Maybe there is an "extra" stopwatch watch, but I don't know where ... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=153884 Sea Hawk: I use the same (GWX, SH3commander, OLC GUI "gold") and find them great. Ive just tweaked them a little to get a draggable stopwatch, and a protractor on the angle tool. Also added a mod to give me the 3 bearing AoB finder wheel and the rear side of the attack disk (I had to mess a bit to get back the draggable stopwatch). I cannot remember who did these as Im at work at presant. ![]() |

PPK:
If you zoom out far enough you should see your own icon. But that means your drawing accuracy might become a problem. Well, you ought to plot for longer than 3m15sec anyway and average the plots. But if that isn't enough, you can allways drop a waypoint on the map and subsequently ignore it. Just set your own course with the compass dial and the waypoint will still be there... with a green line pointing to some spot. That's where you are now. (and you can confirm that by pressing ctrl-leftclick, then the map pans to get your icon under the cursor.) Your suggestion added as EDIT is indeed valid. That would make a relative motion plot (your sub stays in the center of the drawingcircle, while you plot target range on true-bearing to target). But that 'speed of relative motion' and 'direction of relative motion' needs to be vector added to your own speed vector to become the absolute target speed and course. It's a bit more complicated than how it is done in Paul Wazzoo Wassermans or Dantenoc's 'The Hunt' tutorial but definatly historical accurate. Since they didn't have a moving map GPS plottes in the uboats. iirc Don1reed wrote a small tutorial on this once, but becarefull, he made an error with the speed scales. Also his pictures are gone. But maybe it's still of some use to you: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...euvering+board When in doubt, consult chapter 6 of this book about radarplotting and the maneuvering board.: http://www.nga.mil/portal/site/marit...c24fd73927a759
