Default Proper France Uboat pen placement?

Probably a lot to ask for.

I'm probably not the only one to see how...er...wrong the uboat pens are placed in france. (Damned near impossible to get out of one of them...get way too close to the shore)

And I know people have changed Helgoland Blight in GWX and someone even added the Locks of Kiel.

Anyone up to the task?
Wikimapia would be a BIG help, all the pens are labeled already

But this is probably a pipe dream and a huge undertaking...but if people can add bases in the pacific in SH3...

I'm not interested in it but fire up your favorite hex editor or tool and edit the harbor (\data\Terrain\Locations). It's a relatively simple matter to do but will take some time to get it right. All the harbors are made from a set of base objects located in \data\Library\Harbor_kit.dat. Basically 'clones' are made of the object wanted from \data\Library\Harbor_kit.dat and positioned and rotated via the \data\Terrain\Locations\xxxx.dat file. If you want to make new objects then add them to \data\Library\Harbor_kit.dat or create your own file and place in \data\Library and then 'clone' the object in \data\Terrain\Locations\xxxx.dat.

Hmmm...might have to learn a bit, but I've got the maps.

I'll give it a shot.

Oh dear...this is definitely giving me an urge to do some fixing...

Brest is close to the real thing.

Lorient is too far inland and is a real pain to get in and out of.

St. Nazaire is in the wrong place COMPLETELY. (Look for yourself! Open up SH3MissionEditor and St. Nazaire on google maps!)

La Rochelle needs to be rotated 90' and set more inland, but the harbor looks like a good fit.

And Bordeaux...er...Is reeeeally far upstream, and would have to have some work done to the actual map to fix it.

I'm willing to learn...easiest thing to start would probably be Lorient, it's just a move and rotate jorb.

to move an entire harbor you would edit \data\Terrain\Locations.cfg. There are 'generic' harbors for those cities or places that aren't explicitly named. You can also just move the industry or city of the place by editing \data\Terrain\Locations.cfg. Were you able to figure out how to adjust the placement of the objects in a harbor?

France?

Try Kiel, or Wilhelmshaven. None of the harbors in SH3, or SH4 for that matter, are close to the real deal. There is one talented modder who is working on them, but it takes a long time to do each one.
