Default Its over for you America.

I cannot comprehend how anyone could NOT see this as a problem?

WTF is the fed doing?!?!?!?!

you cant just print more and more and more money!!!

is it not obvious that all this does is DESTROY the value of your currency?

how much will it be worth when there is so much of it out there that you can just pick it up off the street???

You know GR, I have gotten to the point I do not care anymore. Do the people in DC really listen to those that voted them in? NO. Personally, I give up on the whole shabang.

Read some of the economic text books that describe the Monetarism theories.

Personally I am not a fan of Monetarism, but it is a valid economic technique when used appropriately. The key word is, of course, appropriately.

a large part of me agrees with you here.

the other part focuses on how much there is to lose.

im just thinking a few years down the road, perhaps a decade down the road tops - when hyperinflation sets in and the cost of something like cheeseburger is advertised as $65 because of what we are allowing our government to get away with today.

Congress / Obama endorse TRILLIONS in "stimulus" - it has been proven time and time again that "stimulus spending" is just delaying the inevitable.

The Fed is printing more and more $$$ out of control.

something's gotta give.

our children and our grand children and our great grandchildren will curse our names to hell when they are paying $65,000 for a turkey sandwich.

its beyond the point of recovery i fear... what is Obama going to do just get all that stimulus money back???

the only saving grace here is if the fed puts a 5 year hault on money printing

OR

The United States based industries (what few there are left) see unprecidented growth - soon!

Over the years I have seen crazy crap come out of Washington. Millions, Billions, Trillions spent. Nothing changes. I wonder why I bother getting upset about it anymore. I have always noticed that those who stay away from the news live a much happier and healthier life. Really, who needs the added stress?

I picture millions of ostriches with their heads in the sand - asses up in the air (Americans)

while congress and the president run from raised ostrich ass to raised ostrich ass - screwing to their hearts content.

It has been like that for years GR. Years ago I never really paid much attention to anything. If I was getting my beer, getting my ashes hauled and my car was running what did I care? The world kept going despite all the BS Washington was doing since the Ford years. Does my one voice really make a difference in the long run? As time goes by, I realize it does not. So, why sweat the details? DC sure isn't.

As of late I much prefer to talk of the big blob in the Alaska area that is probably the worlds largest whale turd ever found.

To get away from the conservative circle jerk I believe that if we start pouring serious amounts of money into things that the free market can make use of which being fusion energy, battery technology, and more aerospace.

If you want to say "Game over man! Game over!" Feel free to spend the last days before the obama police supposedly arrest you reading Ayn Rand and get off the damn net.

I on the other hand am disappointed but I know that it is entirely possible to get out of this mess by technology!

That is not a dead issue in DC. Still much alive but on the back burner. Obama can add it to his 57 states. No, wait.

im not saying its the end of the world dude...

im not digging a bunker in the back yard.

im just saying, in what way can the Dollar recover from such a useless injection of cash and a mass printing of cash as has been the case for some time now?

like i said.

i see only one legitimate way the dollar can recover value... stop printing it for a few years.

In what way? The same way it always has. Having the ability to get more raw material per unit of currency spent.

Look at the computer industry. Look at the huge jump in sales when you could get a Pentium 1 that could do the same stuff that expensive computer did but without breaking the bank account. It grew dispite insane spending then. And grew again when you could get a cheap core to power your phone or protable gaming system or whatever.

Today its dollars per core it used to be Benjamins per batch of megahertz.

Technology increased the value of the dollar without there being a physical shortage of currency.

First and foremost you need to get any ideas of "stop printing" out of your heads. It is politically IMPOSSIBLE. You even try to slow it and you will have massive protests of people screaming "What about my child!" "What about my whatever" And be voted out by a landslide next election. It cant be done by a dem or a pub or a green or a libertarian or a "fiscal conservative" Period...

With that in mind the best option by far is technology development. Battery and Fusion will have the highest initial payoff but there is still boatloads of other stuff that could use funding now. And they arent sinks either. These are university projects and the like that take that money and convert it into a tech that private industry uses.

Without going into a long economic explanation, that chart by itself is misleading. You have to compare it against the dollars destroyed by writedowns on bad assets, deleveraging of companies and the like.
