Old bug, new rant...

Here's some frustration for you. I started a new career in Dec. '41 with the 29th Flotilla the other day. I sailed out of Salamis down to CO 51 & on the border of CO 51 we came across an Empire Freighter with 2 escorts. Sank the freighter & evaded the escorts. Finished the 24 hours in CO 51 and got at least 50km from the nearest ship, land, etc. before saving and closing the game. Loaded the save game the next day & cruised over towards Malta. Nothing happened for about 2 hours (real time) then I intercepted a 3-ship convoy in CN63. Sank all three ships, including the escort. A couple of hours (game time) later we caught & sank a lone tramp steamer in the same grid. Had 2 torpedoes left (had 2 misses in previous attacks) so I decided to head for home. Ran into 1 coastal freighter in heavy seas along the way and sank her with my last 2 shots. Proceeded to return to base. Closed the game and generated a patrol file in SH3 Cmdr. Got the dreaded "Invalid date code argument" message! Had to reload the save previous to sinking the convoy which of course meant that I lost that & all subsequent tonnage!! Got so p*ssed at the game that I tossed out the career...

Weird. I've been playing this game since it came out and I've never encountered the 'saved game' bug.

I have had only one episode of the saved game bug, and that was last week.

The save game bugs are my biggest peeve(s) with SH III. I've never seen a game with so many issues around saving (don't save within 50km of objects or land, don't save while submerged, etc.). I don't know about SH IV but I hope that these particular issues are resolved in SH V before it's released.

Started another 29th Flotilla career with U-73. Hopefully this patrol turns out alright - sank an Empire-type freighter in my assigned grid so I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

That's a real bummer matey, but like Torplexed I must be blessed because I know, judging by the amount of material on the subject, it is a cause for concern with more than just a few players

Hmmm. Never had a save bug and never used the gramaphone.

Don't see why it would make a difference though.

I honestly don't think the two are connected

It sounds a lot like the old stories of wartime bomber pilots going on a mission with only one sock on because the last time they did that they got home safely. Ayrton Senna (F1 racing driver, now dead) used to always wear his driving gloves inside-out, we humans do sh1t like that all the time. "My last save worked fine and I was drinking a soda at the time, maybe that's the cure" There's a name for this behaviour, but I can't for the life of me think what it is. (No smart replies to that - I mean a real medical term, lol)

I'm not stating a precise medical term but here i the UK we call them superstitions.
