Default Hydro sounds length

Well, working on a mod for engine ships @ hydrophone
completely from scratch, but a question came to my poor head

Has to be short the track for the sounds, as r in the game?
or could be, say, a 20 sec file?
Does add something to it doing it in that way?
Better, worse?

Thanks, any comment helps

The files are short because they continually repeat.
Bearing in mind the props make the same noise each revolution as they spin, and the engine will also make the same noise as it runs, the short sound file with the repeat loop produces a consistent sound which only varies with speed, which will change the pitch and speed of the sounds.

I experimented with the sounds a bit myself some time ago, trying to make more individual sounds for various ships according to their size ( hull resonance/engine size/number of props etc.)

Somebody gave me the info for the name of the modding program, and a research link recording the different sounds certain ships made.

Unfortunately, because it was some time ago i can't remember the name of the program i downloaded to do it with, and having done a couple of re-installs since then i lost the mod files and reverted back to stock.
Others will undoubtedly be of more help.
Good luck with it

I'll dig the info out by going through my old posts if you want.

Thanks for the tips
I noticed they were loops, but i was wondering if longer loops would make a difference at all (while the single files is consistent enough,
well, i posted a thread for the mod, worked from scratch the sound according to type, props and so on, some might get bizarre through hydro but managed to get good results, at least that seem to me.
Hope you try it and tell me your view

Cheers

I'm trying to keep my SH3 as stock as possible at the moment, to avoid compatibility problems with mods.
Plus i've got used to the stock hydro sounds again, so i'm leaving well alone for the time being.
There are many that love sound mods though, and no doubt you'll get lots of feedback and opinions from people, many of whom will have more knowledgeable input than me.

As long as YOU are happy with the sounds, thats the main thing, as people's preferences differ.

I hope it's a popular mod, because that will give you the encouragement to keep experimenting and tweaking things, and new modders are always welcome.

People to tend to get vocal about the bigger mods, and especially new ship models, but with the smaller mods, the most likely first feedback people get is negative.
This is often not because theres much wrong with the mod, but because some will install it and keep it, others will decide not to keep it in game, depending on personal preference. But because it's a "tweak" file they often don't bother commenting.
The exception is if it causes a conflict, or game crash or error.
Then you'll hear about it soon enough

Generally then, no feedback is good feedback , and certainly better than bad feedback.
I've just released a couple of "tweak" mods myself, and though not many have downloaded it yet, at least no-ones complained. Fingers crossed for both of us
