Default A Finn commanding a boomer?

Few moths ago, while reading Undersea Warfare, noticed present USS Nebraska's Gold crew CO is CDR Carl Lahti. Because it would be hard to find more typical Finish name than Lahti (besides maybe Lahtinen or Virtanen), that makes me thinking if Nebraska's CO (gold) actually has some Finish ancestors. Many people, however, left the country and moved to States some 70 - 100 years ago.

But a Finn commanding a US boomer, not that bad idea at all. And I could recommend Waller's book Big Red, it's about Nebraska some 10 years ago, under CDR Dave Volonino. Like'd the book.

Greetings,
-RC-

Oh... phew... greatly relieved for a moment there I pictured Dowley at the helm.

I see nothing special in a Finnish CO on a boomer, since it is a finnish boomer, you know. Finland bought the boomer from Somali pirates last year.

Undersea Warfare is a good magazine, my boat was in it a few years back. They even got a picture of my best side in there.

I can explain that nose. I faceplanted to a pier at our summer cottage... just before I fell between our fishing boat and the pier. Stupid Midsummer holidays.

Lesson of the story: If your mother gives you a bottle of vodka to drink with your brother, the last thing to do is go fishing at 4AM pissed drunk.

EDIT: Oh and kudos to Nokia for making good phones! My 4yo phone was in the bottom of the lake for 15-16hrs before I dived it back. 4hrs later it was working like nothing happened.

I suppose Nokia being a Finnish company and knowing that Finnish guys like Dowly like to get drunk and do stupid things, they designed the phones to be drunk idiot proof including sitting in a lake for half a day.

Put any Finn in any car/plane/ship/rocket and he will do well.

You might want to consider not going to your summer cottage, IIRC last year it was your shoes that ended up at the bottom of the lake

Youtube hosts the German comedy "Machen wir's auf Finnisch" in nine parts. It serves any Finnish cliché there is and is somewhat "rustic", but has plenty of gags that made me spit my dinner on the TV screen when I first saw last autumn. german language only.

A young beginner in music management gets a job in a record company by boasting with her (absolutely novice) skill in Finnish language. Her first job is to engage a Finnish band for a TV show. But due to her language deficits she does not pronounce the name correctly wheh talking to the Finnish manager on telephone (sounds all the same anyway ), and instead of the the glorious teeny idol band her boss wanted, a bunch of Finnish rockers comes over, always drunk, absolutely terrible in performing, and behaving like the first apes on earth. If she wants to keep her job, she needs to turn them into a band that can outperform the competitors in the upcoming TV competition.

As I said, plenty of clichées in there, but it all is presented in a good-willing mood, and the Germans get their share a bit, too, and the lovely chick is for free.

The ending made me burst with laughter. I simply had run out of structural integrity.

Best watched while being slighty tipsy already. All Fins please accept apologies - and realise that in the movie the Fins are turning out to be the better humans anyhow!

Not farking funny. The water was cold, my already small willy looked like a shrimp, the sauna was already cold too and I had to walk buttnaked to the other side of the island to finally get to bed. I was shaking like the time I first saw tits (other than mama's meatflaps) and pre-ejaculated all over.
