Default What is with the dark sky layer in the game right above the horizon?

I have GWX3.0 and at night I notice a really dark layer of sky right above the horizon. Then the sky is much brighter (especially when there is a full moon and clear skies) right above it. This dark band makes it extra difficult to spot ships. Is it supposed to be like that?

A screenshot would aid a response.

Have you ever been at sea on such a night? If not, then you don't...

...no, I'm just playin'. I have no idea why that's there, but I've seen it too.

What I would like to know, form people who have been at sea, is: Is GWX 3 more realistic (i.e. where you can't see the flag on darkened ships and you can't see your Watch Officer 3 feet in front of you) or is it more realistic as in GWX 2 where you can see flags on darkened ships at about 1 km and you can easily see your Watch Officer. I get the impression it will be very dark in real life. Can someone verify this?

I suppose the sea is just that dark at night, if you ever go into a forest with no lights and no moon, it's pitch black...and really scary to be honest, now imagine being in the middle of the ocean with no lights near you in who knows how many km, no moon, only the sound of the sea....

...or a screenshot to properly/adequately describe what your experiencing....which is probably the result of the inclusion of olc's environmental mod which was used because the GWX team felt it was more realistically representative of how the conditions at sea are in the middle of the night.

At the moonless night and cloudy sky it gets really dark in the sea. Especially if you're coming on the bridge from inside of u-boat. Red light and gogles were used to make watch crew's eyes adapt to darkness more faster for that reason. Otherwise have no doubt you can easily step on WO foot
