Default American CaptainRoom

Hi all...

I want to make some texture changes to my American campaign office. Such as the sub on the desk, various things around the desk and walls.

But all I have found is the German office. I found the German desk sub texture files, but not American.

Could somebody please tell me where to look for the American office textures?

Thanx all.

The Textures are in the texture folder. The objects are in the Interior/CaptainRoom/CaptainRoom.dat.

I found the (american) CaptainsRoom.dat file, in the interiors folder. And was able to view the 3d model in S3D, but I just want to change the textures.

Cannot find the (american) captains room texture files. I looked in textures/Tnormal/Tex and find the CaptainRoom texture files, including the CaptainRoom_sub texture file...but all the textures seem to be for the German captains room.

Is it possible that those files are missing from my directory? Or that I am not looking at the right files? I say that because over the past month or so I have been going into my directory, trying to understand the inner workings and so on, for learning to make mods. Here's a screen of the texture files that I am finding, but like I said, they all seem to be German textures.

Again, I want to change the textures in the american captainsroom (office)
...things like the map on the wall, the subs textures, the pictures...various thing around the room.

Thanx again.

Go to the captainroom.dat file and open the captainroom node and find the object and it will tell you which material it is using. The materials used are the nodes with the colored circles in front of them. Those name will be used in "Linked 3D model" window as a material.
Also you can go to the 3D model Preview window to select the object you want to find out what it is called if you don't understand the word.

For example the ones you show are the German ones and the carpet is CaptainRoom Carpet but the US version uses mochetaB for the carpet.

Also you need to remember these are 3D objects so you can't change the shape of the material without creating a new 3D object. You can change the color or look of it but not the shape. The materials are .dds files with alpha channel (selections) so you may find some that have several objects in one .dds file. An example of this is Ziduri.dds. It has the walls and the map, and what looks like it is one of the desks. If you look in the .dat file for walls it shows ziduri.tga and if you open that node and look at ID07 node that is the map, and they both use the ziduri.dds as a material. So both object use a selection from the same .dds file.

Thank you for your reply. I have a better understanding of things now, of file types and even how to use the S3D tool better.

Most everything other than working with .DDS files is still new to me. As are some of the new programs I got recently, to use for modding purposes.

Here is a link on the UBI forums for changing the pictures in the Captains office.

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...5091052285/p/2

If you are successful in this endeavor I would be interested in how you did it cause I tried to follow the instructions at the above link but was unsuccessful in accomplishing anything. below are his (lane2512) instructions...

These are the dds files that need to be altered....

All in SilentHunter4/Data/Textures/TNormal/Tex
-postere.dds (girl at clock and on side of cabinet ....(not in these screenshots)..and the three girls on the right wall behind lamp.

-ziduri.dds (girls on main map)

-mapa03.dds (girl on wall right of main map)

-mapa07.dds (girl behind door and crew photo)

-mapamare01.dds (girl on desk blotter)

I used a freeware program called DDS Converter2 (I can't remember the URL but you can google it)

Convert the dds files to BMP with DDS Converter2. Edit the BMPs in your favorite photo editing program. Convert back to dds with DDS Converter2.

Rename the original files like this..postereBAK.dds (that way you can't loose them)...

Then simply paste the new dds files in the same folder.

Lane's office decorator is available!

You all know the Captain's Picture is in the Captains picture file under Data....tga format 512 pixels x 692.

All the office textures are there in the TexNormal file in dds format. Cigar box, books, radio, walls, windows.....

Urge...

Thank you for the link. I indeed have a good understanding of working with the textures throughout the office now (CaptainRoom). I'm working on giving my office a makeover. I might make it into a mod, because it is going very well so far.

It might help you to read the instruction given to me by peabody, in this thread. That was all I had to go on, but all I needed to learn how to edit the office textures. Also...I suggest you download S3D, found here at subsim. It makes it easy in the beginning to locate where certain texture files are located. And perhaps download GIMP, or paint.net, they are good programs for working with .dds format, if you don't have a decent paint program. I am currently using photoshop CS3 & S3D.

If you could be more specific as to where you are getting stuck, please post it, and I will tell you what I did, or try to help.
