Default This SH3 is quite a "game"!

I’ve been into various computer games in the past such as Command and conquer, the Battle ground collection (waterloo, quatre Bras, Borrodino, Age of sail) Combat flight simulator, Mist/Riven/Uru, Cossacks, Sid Miers Civilization, TOCA race driver.

What amazes me about SH3 is how much I’ve been engrossed in other activities around the "game":-

Reading books
Watching films (Daz Boot)
Studding tutorials
Making equipment (Wiz wheel)
Studying geometry, navigation, plotting, manual targeting.
Down loading extras (GWX, Commander, OLC)
Participating in this forum

In fact I’m spending as much time doing the above than actually playing the simulation!

For me, SH & GWX beats any other game purely down to its originality and the pure dynamic aspect of the game.

Anything is a possibility, whereas in other games it's mostly scripted!

This is the only game that I feel gives a true sense of the Second World War in its entirety.

No other game has ever achieved it, Ubi and GWX should be proud.

Well, there are other dynamic simulators (like "Strike Fighters" and the secuels "War over...") but none have GWX so i agree, Silent Hunter 3 + GWX + SH3 Commander gives a very special feeling.

I HATE MATH....and this game made me learn trig for my solutions.
Now if only I get the gumption to take a course in German, I will be set.

I would say that IL2 had the same effect as SH3/SH4 has. The exact same effect described in the first post. Some games make the player go beyond just the pixel.

This game is 4 years old I can’t think of another that I’d like to play. Even my 8 & 5 year old girls like to help me when I play. They like to fire torps and we all say “LOS”. My little one won’t let me sink small ships since they are “cute”.

Yep,Sh3/GWX and IL2 For me also, but also including the TotalWar series as well.
The History elements which allow you to learn and be a better player really hook you in,If like me (and a great many others it seems) You've liked history all your life, the ability to take what you've read about and seen on film/newsreels and make it come alive and be a part of it is just wonderful.
And Addictive.......
