How to disable ship type in notepad (stock SH3)?

Hi,

one thing has been spoiling my fun lately. When my crew members shout 'ship spotted' I take UZO and look. But then on a dreaded notepad I see that my WO already put ship type. Sometimes all I can really see is a shadow, but thanks to notepad I know that shadow is really a destroyer.

This is taking fun away. I'd like to manually ID every ship. Is it possible to disable this auto-recognition issue in stock SH3 (patched) without resorting to supermods or small mods? Also can I do this while at sea?

Any help appreciated.
