The kit to make these is quite cheep now.
Just a tripod that moves the camera and some software to stitch the images and correct the perspective. Always great results.

Photoshop CS4 has a very cool option to make a sphere and wrap an panorama picture on it. You can then use the 3D controls to look around making it look like you are 'there'.
