Default We got a first timer here

Hey everyone. Just got SH3 after getting bored of my current games and seeing it on steam. Being a huge aviation buff, i focused on the air campaigns and tactics of WW2 and not the naval aspects of it. But after playing this game for a bit i have become very interested in it, the stalking of your prey and planning an attack really interests me. But i feel like there is just so much to learn. I was wondering if anyone had any links that i can go to to learn more about the game and how to properly play it?

Also, being a realism fanatic, i play on 100% difficulty and had a few questions. I read here somewhere on the forums that to get your targets course you should plot it on your map, but how do you do that? i know how to plot my own course. But when plotting your target, how do you know what distance to plot it at? And also, the thing that gives me the most difficulty, how do you get the AOB? In the game manual it says you can eyeball it, or to sail the same course as the target and then subtract the bearing from 180? But how do you know the course, and is there any other way than that? thank you

WELCOME ABOARD!

For Silent Hunter questions you've come to the right place! I'm a long-time naval buff myself; there's just something that appeals to me about a world where 40 miles per hour is considered blindingly fast, and everything takes forever to actually happen.

I'm no good with manual targetting myself, but you will get plenty of help before you know it. Also, almost every question you can think of has been asked at one time or another. While you're waiting for a real answer, take a stroll around all these forums and see what you can learn.

Welcome aboard. It will take a while to learn but this forum is great for teaching. How too's, manuals, guides and training aids can be down loaded from the Subsim download site. Several good articals on nav and targeting.
