Default Entering Freetown

It is 2022 on July 20. The winds are 13 m/s so I have stormy waters. No rain. Clear skies. It will take me 14 hrs to reach Freetown which I think will put me entering in the daytime. I have tried to use the mapeditor to look at Freetown for nets and mines, but I don't know how to use it. I cannot get a large view of Freetown and it's harbour.

Should I go in during the day or wait until dark and go in?

Seeking advice from experts

If you suggest I go in at night, how long do I have to wait before I move from where I am?

At periscope depth I bob between 6 and 15 metres. I have no idea how shallow the harbour is.

What should I do?

Rob

What year is it?

If this is your first harbor attack, try Saint Helena, Deep water all around, most of the times you will find a 10K Cruiser/and 10k tanker, each will go down if you aim right (Provided if you can see them). So it is worth a trip. Never attack Freetown myself. Don't know if it is still true in GWX3.0. Haven't don't harbor raids for a while....

All is remember about Freetown is that it's surrounded by a lot of shallow water teeming with MTBs.

Went in there once in 41,
Lot's of scrappy little tramp steamers and small merchants, the one decent target was burning halfway up the hill behind the town

Do you recall how deep is it in the harbour?

July 44...two views showing minefields and subnets.

Average water depth of harbour is 17 metres.

I assume because it is stormy seas, it is best for me to wait and go in at night. But then it would be difficult to see the minefield and nets.

Rob

P.S. Thanks for the maps Jim

Brrrr... I'd hate to enter Freetown even on 0% realism!
Shalow waters, huge minefields, air attacks. What's so important about it anyway?

During 2022 I would expect you to be using plasma torpedoes by then mate ,only kidding.

Really though,I have only made one trip in my entire career to F.Town, and what I remember most is as others have said, the bloody shallow waters all around you. That should in itself tell you that travelling in this area is very dangerous, due to your relative inability to crash dive to save depths, especially from aircraft.I personally, would refrain from going here from about the beginning of 1942 onwards, when air attacks suddenly become very dangerous. If you MUST go in,I would go in during night hours, and at periscope depth (You should get away with a depth of 10 to 11 metres at night),to extra safe guard against aircraft. All depends naturally what year the player is playing in.

F.Town is not really a nice area, also due to the vast distances involved in getting there,USA east coast is much more lucrative, and more ports to infiltrate, making the long journey more worth it

July, 1944-you must have a death wish.
