Default Surprised by sudden ending of career

Greetings fellow Kaleun's!

A couple of weeks ago I finally started playing SHIII, with the GWX3.0, SHIII Commander (latest version), JSGME, and SHIIIGen addtions. I started my career in Kiel with the 1st Flotilla in a type IIA, U7 (although I noted that historically U7 was a type IIB) at the beginning of the war around the end of August '39 . All went fairly well for a newbie. I completed 9 patrols, always fulfilled the patrol requirements (reach grid XX, patrol grid XX for 24hrs, etc). Never lost a crewman, never had hull integrity less than 99%, never ran into anything, etc. During the course of 9 patrols I sank 8 ships for around 34,000 tons. Nothing impressive, but not too bad either for a "duck".

Last night when I started SHIII Commander prior to launching SHIII, I was greeted by a message to the effect that I was to turn the boat over to my IWO, return to Kiel and report for re-training - carrer ended!

Soooo....my question is what did I do wrong that I lost my command and got sent back to school? Granted, once while on leave, I did make a few disparaging remarks about the leadership of the OKM whilst drunk in a nightclub

I just started a new career in the 2nd flotilla out of Wilhelmshaven in a VIIB. If anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate it...don't want to have this repeated.

Cheers,
Scott

You have the "realistic career length" option ticked in the SH3 Commander options screen.

Oh Yes, I've been through the manuals. I have the "simulate a realistic career length" checked.

That's what did it. Uncheck it and you can go as long as you want, or you get killed, whichever comes first.

I see...guess I misunderstood what the checking of it meant

Thanks!

Yes, you got sent back to school, but this time you're the instructor! It's a compliment!

It meant Uncle Karl was very pleased with you and had decided to maybe give you a desk job or maybe put you in charge of training newbies. Also, you did a very good job as you had obviously taught your IWO well so he could take over from you.
I hope you got some medals for your good work.

Also you can click on SH3 Commander where it says "Retired" and take back the command of your old sub at the same point you lost it.

Poor JScones... We'll drive him crazy.

Maybe he should add an "RTFM" memo at the "Troubleshooting" section (?) or even better an "RTFM" tip at the tip screen (?).
