Default RFB v1.4

Hi, I am sorry if this issue has been mentioned before. I did quickly scan the forum for answers but did not find any relevant information.

I am currently new to SH4 and computer submarine warfare in general and am therefore learning how to operate a simulated sub. When I select the artilitary school missions, I cannot get the gun to load, even though I click on the gun shells. However, when I manually click on the guns during other missions, I can get the gun to load and I can shoot with the gun. I would appreciate your help to resolve the aforementioned issue. Thank you for your help.

I have RFB v1.4 installed, as I do not have as of this writing the SH4.5 upgrade.

Sincerely,
Walter

Hello,

I have already sent a crew to the guns. I have isolated the aforementioned problem to RFB v1.4 because when I disable the mod I don't encounter this issue. Has anyone else had a problem with getting the deck guns to work with RFB v1.4? Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,
Walter

Telling the crew to man the deckgun will not send any crew not assigned to the gun go there. You need to assign crew to the gun before they will man it. Find the tab that lets you look at your crew assignment to see if there are crew members assigned to the gun. This is what Captain von Keldunk was saying about crew management, the crew management tab.

I think this is one of the major step backwards that Sh4 has compared to sh3. Leaving the crew on the deck even though in the exterior view they are not there. Which means they take the damage from bombs and depth charges if left in the gun and conning tower slots.

Sh3 automatically shifted the crews from surface stations to inside the hull when the boat went below the waters, or when surfaced and guns not manned.

Hopefully along with enabiling wolf packs, this little problem is dealt with in sh5.

This problem also extends to all the compartments. Essentially, what the game does is it "inactivates" the off-duty watches yet keeps them in their duty compartment at all times. The only way crewmen will move from one compartment to another is if the player physically does it themselves. I really, really do hope SH5 returns to the SH3 system and extends it to all the compartments.

I don't. As far as functionality is concerned SH4's system is way ahead of that used in SH3. They just need to put off-duty personel in their own place.

That's what I wrote.

Hello,

I had previously assigned a crew to man the gun at the crew management screen. I did notice that the crew was at the gun when I was on the bridge. However, they will not fire if though I say fire at the nearest available target, which in this case, is the merchant ship in the training mission. I also cannot manually fire the gun, even though I click on the gun shells. The problem of me not being able to fire the gun only occurs with the artilerary training mission that came with RFB.

Sincerely,
Walter

Sorry. I thought you were advocating the basic SH3 'baby-sit each and every man' as the better system.

Oh, heck no. If the devs can expand the current "move the bridge watch below decks when submerged" routine of SH3 to all off-duty crewmen, I and many others would be very, very happy.
