Hardware store clerk

A cowboy gets a job at a local hardware store and its his first day on the job.

He is walking the sales floor with the head clerk who is giving him some pointers on "up selling". The cowboy is having a hard time understanding so the clerk says

"follow me and listen to how i interact with the customer".

the head clerk walks with the cowboy up to a customer.

"Hello sir, may i help you?" says the head clerk

"of course" says the customer "Im looking for a top quality rake... my yard is a mess."

the head clerk shows the man to the rakes and recommends the most expensive brand and the man buys it.

but the clerk doesnt stop there

"sir, might i recommend some grass seed for your yard? if it truly is a mess, after you get it raked up it will be completely bare, the grass will look great in a few days time."

so the man agrees and buys the grass seed.

yet the clerk continues his up selling routine.

"sir, to reduce your work load in caring for the lawn, i highly recommend buying some of our top name brand fertilizer, it will make the lawn grow thick and green."

so again the man agrees and buys the fertilizer. and the clerk continues... his cowboy apprentice is impressed!

"sir, fir best results you will have to water the yard daily to soak up the fertilizer into the roots, you will need a 100 foot soaker hose for the job."

the man agrees and buys the soaker hose... yet the clerk is not finished.

"I have one last recommendation... this $2,000 lawn mower is top of the line, and you will need to trim the yard regularly to keep it healthy."

so the man buys the lawn mower and the rest of the items and leaves the store.

the clerk turns to the cowboy and says "well that customer came in for a rake, and using 'up selling' i sold him a water hose, grass seed, fertilizer, and a lawn mower... now do you understand"

the cowboy nods his head in the affirmative and the clerk instructs him to try it with the next customer.

so the cowboy walks up to a woman who appears unsure of where to start her shopping

"Ma'am.. how could i help ya?" says the cowboy

"Well sure, im just wondering if you sale tampons and maxi pads" says the woman

"shore do!" says the cowboy leading the woman to the appropriate lane.

but the cowboy isnt finished - he has to try the up selling technique and the head clerk winks at him and gives him a thumbs up.

"Ma'am... you're gonna need a $2,000 lawn mower to go with them there tampons and maxi pads."

confused the woman questions the suggestion

"well" explains the cowboy "while your on your period you can't have sex... so you might as well get your ass out there, make yourself useful and mow the lawn."
