Default Das Boot and La Rochelle

Okay if I am not mistaken the U Boat in Das Boot is based in La Rochelle, so how come in SHIII or GWX there are no flotilla based there?

The game code is limited in the number of flottille that can be played at one time. GWX 3.0 has an alternative flottille mod that replaces the 11th flottille with the 3rd.

A flotilla (3. Unterseebootsflotille Lohs) was based at La Pallice, which is often erroneously referred to as La Rochelle. In the book Das Boot is based on the author, Lothar Gunther-Buchhiem never names the port city or flotilla at all. He never names the boat either. It's just referred to as UA.

The book mentions their base as St. Nazaire, where they could not film due to the harbour there changing significantly during the 40 years between.

Of course, there was flotilla based in La Rochelle, just not in-stock.

Yeah, I guess he does finally mention it on page 50 when there almost all the way out to sea. Oddly, in the book it's not Johann but the other chief mechanic, Franz who cracks under the depth-charge attack. At least Thomsen is still Thomsen.

I like it how they fastened empty cans around their necks during the storm to puke in the book.

Franz doesn't even get dragged back, he just snaps out of it.

It was probably more dramatic anyways for Johann to do that. Skinny, pasty Erwin Leder is far easier to depict in a breakdown than Franz, who could be described looking a bit like and engine room 2WO
