Default Cruising speed?

When you're just trying to get from point A to point B. Like... Pearl Harbor to the coast of Japan... what speed do you use to get there?

Standard seems to use up more than half the fuel... and 1/3rd seems a bit slow. What do you all use for your cruising speed? What boat are you using, if you want to add, too?

Most use 9-10 knts. That is your best speed for fuel. Fuel used correctly will give you plenty time on patrol, but your not going to cruise all the pacific. You should be able to get to you patrol zone from Midway and have 3/4 of a tank left. You basically have a little less than a half a tank to patrol on.

Yes 9-10 knots is best fuel economy for most boats.

If you find that just too slow to bear just check "unlimited" fuel and now worry about it

On the surface I cruise at 9knots and submerged at 1knot. but do you top up at Midway enroute? you should!! click on the knot gauge and use the one with the knots marked on 'Always'

1 knot submerged is a bit conservative. Remember when submerged you are not burning diesel but rather drawing on batteries. Where you lose fuel is in the recharging of the batteries. The deeper the discharge state of the batts the more fuel is lost.

That being said you should get plenty of life out of the batts at around 3 knots.

I run 10 knots on the surface and 3 knots submerged. Always top off at Midway on your outbound leg.

I have found the the 2/3 bell is best for transiting, but if you are in a hurry go to full and top off at Midway. Note early in the war there are few places to top off fuel, but later on there are many more places to take advantage of this.

Iv'e posted once on this for you ,don't know where it's gone. Anyway, l normally cruise at 9.5 knots and then at 1 knot submerged. But you can top up at Midway enroute each way!! thses seem to be the most economical speeds
