GWX Gold My Way

Since there doesn't seem to be anything more to add to this Great Mod lately I am starting a career in 8-1-1939.

I play 100% realism and limit TC to 64.

Boat : VIIb with hydrophone upgrade

I modeled my crew from Das Boot and the few books I have.

WO : My Exec with all abilitys.

CE : Mech and Repair

Nav : Helm

SO : Petty Officer with Hydrophone skill

1 Petty Officer with Torp skill ( Das Boot " We grease'em up and shove'em in "

The rest of the crew are young without skills, Yet !

On SHC I set : Malfunctions, seasonal weather and no fatigue. I won't micro manage crew.

I've done my 5 day shakedown and am refitting for 1st Patrol to NordSee.

The things I saw during shakedown from the bridge with binocs were amazeing.

This showed me the really hard work the GWX Team and modders did that I didn't see to appreciate.

This has inspired me to try it this way. Take it slow and easy and enjoy the hard work that was put into this.

The tonnage will or won't come as in real life.

I just want to really enjoy this Mod.

Again I want to Thank all that are responsible for giveing me this enjoyment.

THANK YOU FIREWALL

Sounds like a plan. I'm really learning to appreciate the harbors also. Lots of detail. Plus its the one place you can count on the wind to be less than 12mps.

I like your idea of modeling the crew after Das Boot.

Just finished first patrol. Was much more satisfiying.

I get the gut wrenching tension I was looking for.

When I save and exit I now feel I've earned that cold brew.

And I don't have to get stinky for the immersion either.

And got 8800 + tons the hard way to boot.

Are you sure Homeland Security will let us take that much on board at once.

And we won't even talk about DEA.

I've always played the game at a fairly low TC, even when i first bought it back in 2005. 128 is about as high as i go. It usually takes me about 1-2weels RT to complete a patrol. Since Gold's release i love all the attention to detail the team has put into this mod...I cant thank Kpt. Lehmann and all of you enough for the difficult and tiring effort you put into this.

I really like your idea Firewall. Semper Fi and good luck!

I also play using the "No Fatigue" model from SH3 Commander (thank you for that, Jaesen!) not because I can't stand rotating my crew but for the fact that they accumulate fatigue too rapidly and then it takes forever for them to rest up.

It makes no sense to me why it takes 3x as long for them to rest up as it did for them to get fatigued. I figure if they're on station for 8 hours, then they only need 8-10 hours rest at most to be fully recovered. A typical watch of 4-6 hours shouldn't be that tiring. It's not like these guys are doing hard manual labor on a farm. They're cooped up in a tin can!

Combat and evasion would wear you down quicker, I know. I can see where standing watch on the bridge might wear you out fast in rough or cold weather and those guys in the torpedo rooms probably work their butts off during combat so they would likely be absolutely beat after an encounter. Damage control crews and the engine room would be in similar shape, I believe. I can see the captain ordering a "holiday" watch for a full day to allow everyone to rest after a particularly hard encounter.

So I go with "No Fatigue" because my officers are there to handle the small stuff and technical details, leaving me free to be the captain. My job is to direct our mission, choose our targets, and get everyone home alive, not wiping noses and making sure we have enough toilet paper in the head.
