I have had a myriad of computer issues lately. My computer had operated smoothly for many months. When I tried to download Mirosoft Service Pack 3, which is a large update, my computer crashed. Ultimately, I engaged Microsoft's tech support for assistance, and I ended up with a clean install of XP Professional, with all recommended updates including Service Pack 3. On three recent missions, my machine crashed with a blue screen of death - just when I had targeted the enemy and ready to launch an attack. At first I thougjht the IJN had instituted new defensive measures to evade our submarines. The games would crash and the computer screen was the blue screen of death , which warned me to disable Bios or memory options. The blue screen contained an error notice that read "Driver_Irql_not_less__or equal." Updating drivers did not help. Incidentally, other than when playing SH4 v1.5 with RFB 1.52 and RSRDC as my major mods, my computer operates smoothly.
I read a post in the forum , which I have been unable to relocate, where a captain suggested the problem could be caused by Service Pack 3, which has reported conflicts with certain operating systems. I decided I had nothing to lose by deleting the service pack and did so last night. (Microsoft has a web page assinged to deleting Service Pack 3 which explains the procedures. It provides four alternative methods to delete it. The first method did not work, but the second did.) Today, I played a mission, and the game did not freeze during either two attacks on separate targets, so it looks like the problem has been solved. If you have Service Pack 3 installed and are experiencing game issues, there may be a connection. I believe it was the cause of my recent problems, and if my computer crashes agaiin with a blue screen of death I will correct this post. Last edited by I'm goin' down; 03-12-09 at 04:59 PM. |
