Dear all
Due to playing around with some mods, I basically ended up with a messed up SH3. So I did a clean reinstall of SH3, applied all patches and tried to install GWX from scratch. All trials failed due to either GWX1.bin or one of the others being corrupt ?? (At least from my backuped historical downloads) So - for the first time, I checked with the md5 tool. It gave me a clear indication, that in the end, GWX4.bin was the only "bad" survivor. All other files were ok - according to this tool. So I downloaded GWX4.bin various times from different sources published in the GWX post - not even one was found to be ok by this tool ??? (And a trial install acknowledged - late in the installation - a problem with a corrupt file) So I tried the full setup version yesterday evening - almost 800 MB to download - and to my frustration, this file already failed at the beginning of the installation (with terrain.... something). One funny thing was, that - yesterday at the end of my efforts - running the md5 tool various times on the same set of bin files once gave me a different result for the same bin file: GWX3.bin in one test was ok, in the next test failed ???? So - what am I doing wrong ??? |

Completely annilate all traces of SH 3 on your computer (deleateing the files etc) and all GWX files then redownload them then install and patch SH 3 to 1.4B then install GWX 1.0 then 1.03 patch and enjoy

First up do like Packerton, uninstall using the the control panel add/remove programs get rid of SH3 and the save folders when it asks if you want to delete them, say yes,
then... if there is a Silent Hunter III folder left in C: Program files/Ubisoft.... delete it... if you only have SHIII you can just delete the ubisoft folder, if you have SH4 installed too you'll need to go into Ubisoft and then delete SHIII main folder there. But check to make sure first. Then try installation of GWX again, if it doesn't work, all the bin files I uploaded personally, I can say with confidence are 100% genuine with no corruption. My brother downloaded GWX first during its initial release and all the files I uploaded are for definate not corrupt in any shape or fashion I know because he checked each and every one at the beginning. I have used them several times over to reinstall GWX. Not a slur to the rest of the Team who uploaded their files as we're all trying to help, but, I'm just saying with certainty I know the files I got are 100% operational. The link to all the necessar files is below my GW signature "Click here to Download GWX 1.03" its all there! |

Important! remember to manually delete the The Silent Hunter III folder from C:/program files after you uninstall. Otherwise when you try to patch to 1.4 it complains of an unknown version.

When you got it sorted out ^^^, create a folder in Programs, and copy and paste a clean patched version of SH3 1.4b there. Next time something like this happens you have a clean set of files to work with on the computer, saves some time, etc.
For SH3 & 4 I have three sets of folders for each. Testing, career stuff and to have access to clean files when needed. As far as keeping track of saves, etc. Multi-SH3 & 4 does this well. RDP Last edited by ReallyDedPoet; 09-11-07 at 02:18 PM. |

Four vitally important points to remember: :hmm:
1...Ensure you d'l the files from a reliable source, there are many and my sig offers you another option. ![]() 2...Follow the instructions below to the letter. ![]() 3...After you have completed the deletion of c\My Documents\SH3 folder, perform the 'uninstall' option using the original game disc. ![]() 4...Most important of all: http://jimbuna.youaremighty.com/ :rotfl: Good Luck Kaleun ![]() 1. Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs" 2. Open Windows Explorer and: - *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3 - *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder 3. Reinstall SH3 4. If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US) 5. OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future 6.Download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch 7. Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts 8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts 9. SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder. |

Hi all Many many thanks for your suggestions. With my limited time, I shall try later this week - it cost me already a lot of time with no fun. Playing SH4 and SH3 side by side already makes the choices very difficult - so I am really looking forward to next GWX version already. I think, that gameplay is way more demanding in SH3 than SH4 - naturally due to the different environment. So both games have equivalent funpotential ... I was just wondering - having a new - working - installation of SH3 1.4b and no possibility to (re)install GWX ?! But I shall try again - cleaning folder stuff (and maybe registry as well) and reinstall again. Maybe it helps ? thanks again |

I hope someone can help me, I don't know if I'm posting in the right thread but I installed GWX3.0 to a clean install of SH3 that was patched to 1.4b. It loads up to a full red bar but then I get the message:- Menu ID not found 0x1a00008 also the message:- There is a new (not implemented) page <Page Ingame Options> Can anyone help me to get GWX3.0 running, it looks great! Many thanks!

Hi to all - one thing to remember, no matter which uninstall method you choose this game seems to leave some trace of itself behind which buggers up future re-installs.
Its very frustrating but there is a work around - you need to find a tool called sh3_regclean - developed by someone called steelbar or some such - or search the forums re uninstalling sh3 or difficulties therein I have frequently uninstalled SH3 via the registry- by deleting the entire ubisoft folder and all content and all games, plus the relevent folder in my docs and done a regedit and scaned with crapcleaner, and the my computer uninstall and rebooted and defragged and everything else advised on these forums. The only thing that seems to work and garrantees a successful reinstall of SH3 is sh3_regclean I would also suggest that having downloaded it you keep it somewhere you will need it again Best Regards R |
