Default transfers and the type XXI

My question is about transfers and the type XXI. In my current carreer I am in the 2nd Flotilla based in Lorient and am returning from another Carribean slaughter in June of 1944. Every time I've ever looked at transfering to another squadron the list has "Keine Anfrage" next to every other flotilla. Which I interpret as "No demand" meaning those flotilla's aren't looking for new Kaleun's and I can't apply.

1) Can I still apply even though it says "keine anfrage?"

2) If not, will an opening eventually pop up?

3) To which flotilla should I apply to be able to purchase a type XXI and what is the earliest date that boat is available?

Thanks much for any help

i think "no demand" means that you haven't asked to be transfered... not that the other flotilla doesn't need new kaleuns.

to get a type XXI you need to be on.. whatever flotilla has it's base of operations on Bergen, i think its the 11th Flotilla. And the boat comes LATE... i think late 44 or early 45.

No, it just means that you haven't applied for a transfer to them yet. It is your demand, not theirs

And the 11th has XXIs.

Thanks for the tips, I was able to transfer to the 11th in Bergen.

FYI I was in Bergen on June 10th, 1944 and there was a type XXI available. I'm so psyched. First patrol grid is AM 71, and after 2.5years of patrolling of the U.S.A. (especially in the Carribean) it will be nice to get back to the old Rockall Bank hunting grounds. Can't wait to see what the new boat will do.

Just make sure that your on your toes when using the snorkel, it DOES give off a radar signature when your running submerged with diesels. if your not paying attention, before you know you'll have half the RAF dive bombing and DCing you to death.

An incredible boat the Type XXI. You can spend an entire patrol running submerged. (If you decide to do so, I recommend 5/6 knots cruising speed)

@WP. I couldn't agree more. I play with GWX3.0 and SH3Commander3.2. I love how deep you can get with this boat, it almost negates the updated ASDIC that the allies have if you can get under a thermal layer!

I'm not sure why I would use the snorkel since:

1) it does give off a radar signal, and

2) I've gotten the "Empfange Funkmesssignale" message ("Receiving Radar signal") 4 times already and every time had plenty of time to dive the boat before the plane arrived. My old XIC took 45-50 seconds to get under, and although that was enough planes would still bomb where I would have been without manouvering. In the XXIII they don't even bomb where I was since I get under so fast.

So why would I use the snorkel since when underwater I have no radar detector?

I dove the boat to test crush depth and started taking damage at around 300 meters. Is this anyone else's experience?

The reason you want to use the Schnorchel is you dont have to run on the surface, which gives off an even bigger signature. If you get a radar warning message while running submerged on diesels just lower your schnorchel and go to batteries. You can cruise a long way on battery power, keep your speed to around 4-5knots. Run this way for 30-1 hour, then simply extend your schnorchel and recharge what battery power you used, repeat as necessary, and you'll never hace to surface!

to answer your question about maximum crush depth are you playing with SH3Commander 2.7 or higher?

If you are then if you have the option for randomizing your crush depth this could be why you starting taking damage at 300 meters. i have found from personal experience while plaing the typeXXI that 300 meters is the limit any deeper and you don't know what to expect! Usually at around 250 or so meters you have a good chance of finding some thermal layers to hide under if trying to avoid ASW ships.
