Default Fish and Radar

Ahoy fellow submariners!

I've a couple of odd situations on my hands. I'm operating a Gato class boat in June of 1942. I put out of Pearl and deployed to Hokkaido for patrol, running across a convoy that I decided to stalk. I bagged two tin cans and three Marus totaling 19071 tons and showed a clean pair of heels back to Midway to refit. After taking on fresh stores and ten new fish I returned to Hokkaido and completed my patrol, then turned South and deployed to Honshu to hunt convoys.

I periodically save my game like any normal person, and that is where I noticed a problem.

I opened the game and loaded my last save - which put me 60ni off Kamaishi. The moment I found myself in the con I heard one of my fish fire off. I gave no such command nor pressed any buttons... my torpedo targeting system wasn't even opened. I thought that perhaps it was just a one time glitch with my audio, but the next save and load I made another fish shot off.

In short, my fish are firing by themselves. Has anyone expierenced this before or know anything else about it? I've sailed back to Midway and taken on new torpedos, but I don't know if that's solved the problem.

My Radar also started to act up when my fish did. Previously it worked but now it simply doesn't... I've gone to the radar station and tried to turn it on/off, set the range, run a sweep, etc... and nothing has worked. Its simply dead. I haven't taken any hits or damage from any Japanese vessels or aircraft... so nothing is out of commission.

Again, anyone expierenced this before or know anything else about it?

Thanks in advance for your time and efforts.

EDIT: I am using SH4 Stock with a KillFlags Mod skin for my boat... but I installed everything previous to leaving Pearl.

Are your torpedoes actually firing (as in, they're missing from the boat, you can see their trail, etc)?

SH4 has a rather annoying tendency to play sounds upon loading a game that were previously played prior to saving. So it sounds like a fish is running, or damage occurred, etc., but it's not actually occurring.

I have no idea on the radar issue. Still playing early war, my Salmon can't get radar (yet). The next time I'm offered a boat, I'm gonna take it.

You're thinking as I did. I assumed it to be a mere sound glitch... there were no fish in the water, trails, etc... but they wern't listed in my torpedo management menu... meaning they had indeed been fired? And each time I load a game the number increases... so when I hunted down and lined up a perfect convoy interception... I raised my attack periscope and discovered tube three was the only one ready to fire and tube two was being reloaded... everything else was empty!

I never heard about this before. As the gentleman said, the sounds of torps being fired usually comes when you´ve just loaded a save but never have they actually be gone.... At least not for me...

Try to reboot the game and start with that same save again. If that doesnt work, I would say it´s time to re-install the game

good luck

Ok, loaded my Midway Refit save and the sound occured again, but this time I still had all my fish... so I'm not sure why they were simply unloading.

When you did your refit at Midway, did you refit TWICE. Maybe you know this but if you refit with empty tubes, it does not fill the tubes. You have to refit, click the auto-reload button off then on, so starts loading tubes and then refit again. It will set aside enough torps to load the tubes so you can add the extra torps, but it still takes time to load them unless you time compress, they don't just pop into the tubes.

Aye. I took on new fish, saw that they didn't load, clicked on/off the auto-reload, and refitted again. I didn't know but sorta figured that out.
Thanks everybody, for your help and the warm welcome!
