Default Officer Management

Okay not sure if ill get laughed out of the forum or with this question but its bugging me so here we go.

Having completed 20 patrols my officers all have a chest full of medals and have been promoted to Oberluetanent etc.
On my SH3 Commander remarks column it says i should dismiss these officers so they can take command of thier own boats!

Why would I want to dismiss experienced officers for noob officers and have to build up thier experience when I could selfishly keep them on my boat?

Yes i agree why change them as you progress through the war the more experience crew you have the more chance you have of surviving

Simple. If you're attempting to mirror what would be done in real life, you'd dismiss them. If you're less concerned with realism, you'd keep them.

Exactly. The navy needs its best men in command of their own boats. If you're good enough and popular enough with the brass you might get your own selection of new men, but the experienced ones need to be in command. Also, in real life they have feelings of their own, and want to be in command.

Too bad letting them go on to their own commands won't have any effect on anything. Would be neat to see your former XO racking up the tonnage in U-123 while you train up another shiny young face.

Perhaps in SH5...

yes but if you change your bridge officer you always get a surprise attack from an aircraft the new bridge officer never see's untill its too late and the gun crews seem to go blind and miss everything they are shooting at

Too bad. That was a problem they really faced.

Is that to suggest SH 'rewards' the release of experienced officers with other - (not necessarily EQUALLY) - experienced officers?

I've seen this, but never let a top dog officer leave. If I did, do I get nothing but green officers in exchange, or what? I'd like to see a like-for-like swap..

cheers
Paul

No, I was speaking of real life. SH3 Commander gives you some leeway, but it's random, and if you want to creat your own 'better' men you have to wait until the end of the patrol.

Maybe use Commander to change the skills a little and give him a new name, and pretend he's the replacement.

Or just leave him there and pretend you outsmarted BdU.:rotfl:

Unfortunately there's only so much the game will let you do. After that you have to decide how you're going to play.

I actually enjoy grooming my noobs into veteran oblts. Sure it hurts to let your trusted XO go on to his own boat, but usually you have other senior officers to promote to his position. They won't be quite as good, but they shouldn't be completely useless either. I just gave up my original Oblt. after 6 patrols. I had two senior Lt.s, both veterans of as many patrols, one of which I will promote next patrol to Oblt. I took on another noob Faunich(sp) so now I have three experienced officers(two Lt.s and a F) with one noob F. Not too bad.

I do the same with the ratings. I usally let around 3-4, random rank and experience, get transferred to other boats after each patrol. I get noobs in return and the training starts again....

If we survive to 12 patrols I usuall retire the career and by that time there are only a few of the original crew left aboard.

I will retire my most experienced officer and move everyone up a new crew position.

in other words... if my CE is most experienced, he is dismissed.

my Navigator moves to CE

Weapons moves to Navigator, Watch Officer Moves to Weapons and a new officer is brought aboard.

about "releasing your officers not having an effect" it would be nice to at least see their names show up on the roster with some sort of tonnage totals aside their names
