Does anyone recognize this:
![]() Out-of-the-box-install on Vista_32bit Home Premium. The scrambled text in upper left hand corner is active - leads to a dialog letting me exit cleanly. But the game - no banana... Help would be much appreciated ![]()

Did you load the DX9 from the disc when you loaded the game? Also, I recommend you create a root folder when installing the game. Name it something like Games2. That is what I did so I did not run into errors for mods and things. Also, SH4 is a bit fickle with Vista. Sometimes upon installing the game you have to reset your video card back to the defaults. Run the game. Once done, go back to your vid card and set up how you like the card to run your games. I had nothing but a black screen but could hear the game music playing. Once I set my card to defaults, the game was visable. Give that a try.

AVGWarhawk:
Removed game. Reinstalled - including game-supplied DX9 runtime - to C:\Spil\Silent Hunter 4\ Reset videocard to as much default as i could. Afterall, i've fiddled very little with tweaking anything at all. No banana... Same screen. Upper right windos shows moving ships, upper left text is 'live', leading out of the game if clicked. I've noticed that the intro-movie races along as if something is not synced properly. Sound works all right though. Also did an install on son's XP box. Same result. Game delivered in original Ubisoft DVD-cover-thing incl. nice printed manual. I'm completely in the dark here! Machine runs CoD/WaW just fine, to give you a feel for the state of things. Opteron 2-core + 8600GT + Corsair XMS on Asus A8N-SLI.

![]() I had a similar problem. When I updated video codecs it works fine. Try uninstall or update codec pack.
Look at these thread on forums.ubi.com. My problem was in ffdshow filter. BLACK SCREEN AFTER FIRST LOAD Strange menu bug. If you are using an older version "k-lite codec pack" just run "K-lite Codec Tweak Tool" and check option: "Disable the following filter - ffdshow" Of course, if later you want to watch a movie on your computer (avi, wmv, mpeg.. etc.) - just unchek this option again. But simply - to upgrade videocodecs. I hope it helps.
