They edited Robert de Niro out of it.

Also, Meryl Streep no longer makes her lovely appeareances.

Personally I think they pretty much ruined the film with this special edition. Even the deer no longer acts as you remember it from the first, original version.

On the positive side, it is no longer as long as the original, which was pretty much boring due to 3 hours running length, and the deer of the title only had one minor appearance despite the length of the movie.
