Default Its come on a bit since I last looked!

Hi guys,
I've had SH4 for ages but was so into SH3 I decided to hold off installing until I felt done with 3. Well as your all aware it just kept getting better.........
However, 3's just crashed out on me so I've decided to install 4 and see what everyones raving about, its installing now.
Theres been a few mods/upgrades to 4 since I looked and I would appreciate a bit of a heads up on what mods are out there and what people recommend.
Ran SH3 under GWX and commander at 80%, no idea - but about to find out - what 4 has in store but any advice re mods would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.........

There is no 'commander' for SH4 regretably.

I suppose the most important thing is to get the uboat expansion (V1.5) not necessarly for the addittional content but for the patches it contains.

Secondly you will JSGME but your probably already familiar with that, however you will need a new installation into the root of SH4.

Once you have that installed and working move on to the mods. There are two 'major' ones ... TMO & RFB.

I would suggest you spend a little time in the modding section and do a little homework on which you would prefer.

Ditto what Steam said, but may I add, If you prefer to play the stock game for a while, I would still suggest one of the visual mods, EE5.0 or PE4.

definately get the ubm 1.5 ad-on and if you play stock you would want to get all the available fixes for the game.

its easy to get them all with the links at my "game fixes only" mod page in my sig.

if you use TMO or RFB they should have most of these fixes in them but i cant say if they have them all. plus they include environmental mods so you dont need those if you use TMO or RFB.

TMO makes the game very hard even if it stretches realism and RFB goes for pure realism but its still challenging too.

ps- most of the mod action is found in the sh4 mods workshop forum

When it first came out I got it via d\l, have had no problems with it. Since then I have also bought the Gold Edition, which contains the original SH4 + the U-Boat Expansion.
Got it at EB Games.

If you want to play on the German side too you should install the Operation Monsun mod (after installing 1.5 of course).
OM adds some great campaigns and new u-boats to the game, instead of stock 1.5 which features only one german campaign (indian ocean) and two u-boats.
You can find most german-side mods in the ATO Mods forum.

Thanks guys, I'll check them out.
Did the Training to get used to the controls, then went for a quick mission.
Controls way different to SH3 and graphics are - well being blunt on my setup- crud at the moment compared to SH3.:hmm:

Before I get my head ripped off I need to d/l the mods and maybe tweak my Nvidea settings a bit.
Systems an AMD Athlon XP3000+ 2.17Ghz, 1 GB Ram running XP home edition SP3 with an Nvidea GForce 6600 card.

This could be to my advantage - wife buys game - I need better card to run it at its best- reason to spend cash on the dreaded PC!:rotfl:
I think I'm going to like it just need time to get it set up properly..............

Thanks again.

well you have to remember gwx has years of updates and revisions to get it to look that way. sh4 is still new and the environmental mods are just coming into their own. plus the two creators of both env mods are combining their work into one super environmental mod so lots of improvements are still being made.

trouble is that some sh3 modders wont even try to use and mod sh4 out of some missinformed idea that sh4 is somehow inferior to sh3 when the only real problem is its still relatively new and therefore not as polished.

As far as controls go, you might want to give TMO a shot. A very good mod and the keyboard controls are already set up like SH3!
