Default Battery charging...just to make sure.

After searching the forum, I'm inconclusive on how battery charging works. Will the batteries charge if I'm surfaced, but at 0 knots (all stop)?

Thanks for your patience, as always (One of us has to have some :p ).

I believe that the engines must be running to charge the battery; and in the game, if they are running, you are moving.

That's not very good news...after spending hours sneaking by a destroyer while submerged I was hoping to park my butt, surfaced, not moving and in the dark, long enough to recharge.

You could manually set the speed to the smallest amount possible.

Couldnt Uboats disengage the props from the engine via a transmission? (kinda like your car in Neutral...)

Well, after a little test hidding out just inside a ship barrier at Scapa Flow...the batteries DO recharge as long as you are surfaced...moving or not. This is good as it only makes sense...just because you aren't moving forward or back, the diesels are STILL running and charging the batteries. It's as is should be., IMHO.

Default Batteries

When the battery need charging, one of the engines runs to do this (I think the starboard one) and the other is used for propulsion. So if you are stopped on the surface, the engine is running and making a racket. If you are moving, the speed is reduced significantly. If you need more speed, you can request the Chief Engineer officer to discontinue charging the batteries.

Although if you're in an unfriendly area I'd highly recommend it.
