I wonder if at any point there was a fleet point painted in dazzle camouflage?

Default Paint schemes

Check local hobby shops. Last October while waiting to meet with the mortgage loan officer. I went next door to a hobby shop to kill time. I found a booklet on Gato-class submarines. Published by Squadron I believe. There are a couple of colored drawings that would be helpful. That should give you place to start. Other than that, keep searching the web.

How about Mountbatten Pink? :P

I recall there was a paint scheme that was black on top and plain grey on the bottom..

Check this website: http://www.shipcamouflage.com/index.htm

It shows what is reasonably possible...

The boats went through a whole scale of colors during the war.

And if you check photos from boats coming back from a patrol you might even find more colors, when the paint was peeled off due to depth charging and sea water effects

groetjes,

I put a model of a gato like this together.

Keel to waterline is black, above is a grayish blue, props bronze, different little handles and hatch locks bronze. Used my sub in SH4 as a outline.

I believe I will paint it in the USS Whale Scheme that FooFighters did.
I like that one better, and its historically accurate.

My planned build is the USS Flasher
I will upload pictures when i finish it

I also bought a couple of 1/72 sub models with a gift card I got...w00t!

He could alway's paint it white with red stripes like a barber pole. THAT would make them look twice. Just kidding. It's your boat paint it as YOU see fit. Although I do like the barber pole idea....CH
