Default some advice please

Hi.

i got the assigment to recon the harbor of Tokyo but it is impossible to reach with out getting detected. Anyone done this mission? and if so how did you complete it? I normally sneak in every port but Tokyo is a bit to much for me.

I did it in un-modded stock and will never do it again!

The biggest problem is the batteries drain after traveling the approx 60 nm submerged (with all the legs) to reach the Objective area. Run silent at 1 - 2 kts or the batteries won't last. After making it in, surface in the NE area of the bay at night to recharge (at least 5 nm from any land), then submerge to go do the recon. After succeeding, return to the recharge area to recharge at night, and travel the 60 nm out to exit the bay.

You can take the photos at night believe it or not. I didn't know it at the time so mine were during the day.

Good luck. If I am assigned that mission again I click the anchor icon to re-dock at Pearl and get a different mission. If I get it as a secondary mission, I don't do it. Once was enough for me.... lol - I don't think it is a historically accurate mission ....

Happy Hunting!

damn you know how to cheer a guy up:p but is there a special route of how to get to back part of the entrance? I mean how did you get there go through the middle in the deep part all the way or sneak in shallow waters during the night and lay at the bottom during the day?

I just finished do this, although I only had to go as far as Yokohama.

This is in RFB mod...

I went in on the surface at night, standard speed... Didnt see any patrol ships on the way in. Took my pictures, then went and sank an Akagi(sp?) heavy cruiser... which I guess alerted the defenses.

Getting out was harder, I ran at flank on the surface but had to dive to avoid a DD. thankfully I had just enough room under my keel by then to evade the him.

I was a little suprised it was so easy, that was my first patrol, Dec 41.

Of coarse after that things took a turn for the worse, came across a convoy, sunk one ship, missed my other shot and was then pounded by 3 DD's, one of which blew my the tip of my bow off... No major flooding though.

I made a couple mistakes above - 45 nm not 60 nm but same deal - watch the batteries. Yes I hid on the bottom. I made a map of my route just now and inserted a photo from the actual mission. Anything inside the 8 nm circle is fair game for a photo.

You know - after making this map - makes me nostalgic for the mission... maybe I will do it again ;-)

Yep, that one is a pain, but I always plan to go into a harbor at night and stay in the deep spots and go all stop, then to the next deep spot and so on... It took me about 4 hours or so but I manged to get Tokyo done and almost out of the harbor and had to fight my way out. Patience is the key for sure on that one...

in the process and crippled a large tanker :p.

Best thing is igot a way with it.

wenn all the ships were surching for me after i sunk the carrier the CA and the VA i was unding the battleship now that is a nice tactic they cannot find you there after the went away and search a few KM further on i went 1 km backwards and sunk the battleship too that was for anker there and then i made a run for the deep part at full speed andi was home free sorry i'm not allowed to make attachments for some reason so i cannot show the screenies i made

Go in on the surface at night, ahead flank. Keep one eye on the binoculars and another on the radar scope. Pray no one sees you.

Avoid the area, go blow stuff up elsewhere, and go home. I haven't gotten a stupid recon mission except for one after that and it was to recon Malekeok or however it's spelled. But I couldn't get it completed because there were no ships there. They were on the other side of the island in the other better protected harbor. So it was impossible to complete the mission and I went around sinking whatever I could find. I got 4 destroyers, a light cruiser, and a couple small freighters. Headed back to Pearl with empty tubs after rechecking the harbor I was to photograph, and again it void of ship traffic.
