Default Message Proceeds: BdU Happy Christmas to you too!

Well... thanks very much.

It's December 1944 and I'm currently over Northern Ireland creeping in at 2kts to my patrol zone of AM68. It's like the M25 here! Every few minutes a warship goes screaming past, and I have three warships following my track. Talk about being in the lions den!

...and there was me looking forwards to a nice comfy retirement in a few months time.

I think someone heard me... two of the trailing warships headed off away, then the one left strangely - and without any involvement of myself - spontaneoulsly sank.

One of my KM colleagues perhaps?

Its all part of that christmas spirit. I'm sure that sunken destroyer crew decided that you'd get sunk by another ship sooner or later and so they scuttled their own boat so they could have and extra rum ration when they get picked up.

It's working: reverse course, deep, and 2kts... the DD's are milling about but no pinging so far.

My plan is to go in a day after him and sink all the unprotected merchants

Well, guess you can't have all one would like. Heading back to port; all torps expended and lots of ferrous scrap sitting on the sea bed Didn't manage to reach my patrol zone, but at least I'm completely undamaged!

...and not so young! 39 next Feb

Just as I made the open ocean (and having passed without detection dozens of warships), I find I'm suddenly DC'd to death by a DD that completely escaped being detected approaching.

Accept that I've reached the '45 "end of war" date, but I still think this is a bit unfair. Not every single unterseeboot crewman died so why should I? IF I can get home undetected on the final patrol, then surely I should? And not immediately and automatically die just because the war ends?

Small gripe - I've run the whole war over from '39 on a few times now, so I know what's coming - but surely If I can Get Home, Then I Should Be Allowed To It would a small personal victory even though the war is lost..

Interested to know if any of the super-mods end in similar or different fashions (My rather abrupt end to this patrol marks my last using the stock game).

Now that I think of it, I never actually finish a career with the stock game. I was either sunk before the war ended, or abandoned career to start a new one.
But I did recently finished a GWX career. Nothing really happened on the last day (except for getting the messages to cease hostilities, including the famous Donitz's "My U-boat Men...").
I was still being hunted, but I safely returned to my home port, which was no longer in German hands, even though it was still populated with German warships.

Thank you Meduza, either is infinitely preferable to being suddenly executed with absolutely no chance of extrication.

The war ends - I accept that - and 'we' lose. But I don't believe ubisoft put too much thought in this part of the game. Suddenly being fataly attacked seems to me a rather rushed job. I can't even surrender! The mod outcomes you suggest sound great!

Loath that I am to resurrect an essentially dead thread, but I just wanted to say:

Currently leaving port on first patrol, '39. GWX2.1 and I'm already loving the expansion pack! Thanks!!
